Contact r.e. Debt from 10 years ago

Many years ago I was in a real mess with debt - you know the script, credit cards here there and everywhere, payday loans, overdraft, etc. The overall value wasn't huge - a few thousand, but not tens of thousands, but the bigger mess was how many different people I owed with different amount! I sat down firstly with Stepchange and then independently and set various payment plans with everyone and paid it back over a few years in a mixture of F&F settlements, monthly payment plans, or a mixture of both.
I have now been contacted back in April by Resolvecall on behalf of Sygma, relating to a credit card I had back then, which was a JJB sports credit card (tells you how long ago it was - JJB went bump in 2012!). It was passed originally to Cabot financil and now resolvecall. They are claiming that there is an outstanding balance of over £900.
Now I say this absolutely honestly - as far as I am concerned, everything was paid up around 8 years ago! Now I can't find any reference to this, I've moved house twice since then and a lot of the paperwork I had was binned. I did at the time have stuff down on my computer in a spreadsheet but god knows where that is - probably on the laptop I was using at my old employers at the time! Genuinely, it's been forgotten about for years after I finally got my financial life together!
So when they called me in April, I asked them to send me proof of the debt and any details relating to previous payments or agreements made as I disputed the amount. He said they would do that and I heard nothing until yesterday, only 3 months later! I got a phone call saying "we've received the details relating to this and can email it through to you for you to study" - no problem, I said!
Anyway...the email I have received literally says the below;
BALANCE CONFIRMATION
Our Reference: | __X__ |
Creditor: | CABOT FINANCIAL (EUROPE) LTD |
Balance: | £ 933.92 |
Date: | 26/07/2021 |
MR __X__ __X___
I can confirm that the outstanding balance is £ 933.92

Now....I'm not being funny, but what exactly does that tell me??? There are no attachments, no paperwork, no nothing. It doesn't even tell me the original creditor or default date or anything! I am literally being contacted by somebody who says I owe them money from 8 or 9 years ago, why should I believe them???!!!
I just find it bizarre but I don't know what to do in this instance? Has anyone any advice?
Note - nothing appears on my credit file for it.
Thanks for any advice!

Yes, best advice is stay off the phone, you have asked them for proof of liability, and they have provided nothing.
If you have not paid anything toward this debt, or acknowledged it in writing, for any period of 6 years, then the debt will be statute barred under sec 5, limitation act, 1980.
You should write to them, send them the statute barred letter, and that should be the end of the matter.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Thanks for your reply, that's what I'll do. I honestly have no issue with paying what I owed or making settlement agreements, but as far as I can remember EVERYTHING was resolved. It also doesn't make any sense because I am sure the credit limit on this card was £1500 (and it was definitely maxed out!!) so the balance doesn't even make sense unless I made a settlement figure of around £500-£600 but they're now chasing me for the balance, but isn't that the point of making a full and final settlement figure back then?!
Anyway, thanks again for the advice!0
