We have been on repayment plans for a few years after he lost his job for a short period then took a temp part time rolling contract which was inconsistent. I was working part
time permanent. All our debts we had went to default through help from Stepchange and we set up repayment plans to each of them.

Fast forward a few years and both of us are in much better job positions with great prospects to climb and naturally a better stable income. I'm on the pathway to become a secondary maths teacher which should help hugely in terms of paying off quicker (hopefully)
Our spending became a bit erratic over the last few months but with a realisation that we would love to move we know we need to reign it all back in and get back into good habits. We had such a lovely grown up chat.
We know defaults sit with us for 6 years with one occurring last month (forgotten about as new company took over & payment methods were limited)
We have a decent disposable income that we need to use now to start paying back bigger chunks now we have built up an emergency fund but will also allow us to still save.
We should be able to clear 3 of them by mid next year and the others within 4 years
I would love to hear from others who have been in similar situations & who have managed to go on and buy a new house.
