After a tribunal (that I lost) whilst working in Switzerland and being diagnosed with long term health condition I was left with £17k debt with courts. I haven't been able to work since (10 years ago) . The debt was live in 2017 and they have been hounding me for the money. I'm on anti depressants and still cant work. I'd really appreciate any guidance? Xx

Where are you living now, Switzerland, or UK ?

Who exactly is the 17k owed to, a swiss court ? is it a fine ?

If your in the UK now, and this happened 10 years ago, it should be clear that this fine/debt is not collectable, otherwise they would have taken action to do so by now.

By hounding you, if you mean collection letters etc, then that is about as bad as it will ever get.

  • Thanks I'm living in UK now for 10/11 years.

The debt was for the case I lost (legal fees) owed to the court.

The case was concluded 2017 so my worry is can they legally chase me for this as I still cannot work? Thanks fur replying and any further guidance

I`m certainly no legal expert, and I cannot find out much online, but in order to recover this money, they (the swiss judicial system) would have to pursue you through the English courts, now that is something that rarely happens, if ever.

Given the passage of time, you indicate its been 4 years, its unlikely anything will happen now, and even if it did, and a claim was issued, any repayment would be inline with your budget, if you don`t have the money, and you are not working, as long as you don`t own any assets, there is pretty much nothing they can do.

Do they have address details for you ?

As without that, they are stuffed.

One thing I would suggest, is don`t ever go back to Switzerland, as they have a nasty habit of keeping long memories.
