New job vs current.... dilemma...

    Obviously the only person who can make the decision is yourself, and to make that decision you have to decide whether the positives of the new job outweigh the negatives. 
    To me, the new job would seem to hold more appeal.  More holiday, higher base pay, paid overtime, less on-call.  Any change of job will raise the concerns about not liking it, but if you take it all you can do is make the best of it.
    Throughout my working life my view was that if I was only offered more money because I'd handed my notice in, and it did happen, they really didn't value me, they simply didn't want the hassle of recruiting. I never stayed at a job after handing in my notice.

    To me, I would jump ship.

    I think I'm right in you have been offered two jobs since being there? There's a reason you are looking elsewhere.

    I hate it when company's  counter, mine did the same but I moved anyway.

    You've been there 10yrs so I get it's daunting, but take the leap.

    In your words, ‘I’m in a Job I really, really enjoy’ ‘I’m worried I wont like the new place’ 
    Bit of a no brainer, stay where you are, you are happy and your bosses obviously value you as they have offered you a 5k wage increase. I usually tell people the 2 simple words “If Only” but in this case I doubt if you will enjoy your new job, more than the present job, if you feel really happy and comfortable why create a possible problem for yourself by leaving.

    If the bosses truly valued the OP they wouldn't wait until the OP was leaving to consider giving them a payrise.  The OP states that they didn't have a payrise for years, which again to me doesn't indicate that they were valued.

  • Another way to look at it is your current company may now see you as a flight risk, should the company need to cut costs you may find yourself on a  redundancy list. Depending on your age, I would say it's good to change jobs, 10 years is a very long time to stay in a job. You'll learn so much more going to another company. And if money is an important factor you will jump up the salary ladder quicker by moving.

    OK, Jump ship into the unknown, I am sure you will have a great future ahead of you. More holidays, More Wages, Paid OT, Less call outs, go for it, and close the post as reading all of the various views will addle your brain.

    That depends on the likelihood of being called out - if they know they are giving you a day off will they make sure you are called?  Do you do on call already?  Does it feel like a proper weekend/day off or are the restrictions onerous?  I know some people who do 'on call' and it is just the rare, brief, phone call and others where it is very often more than a normal day of work!

    It's not just about money and holidays.  What other benefits are there??  What's the pension like at both?  Medical cover?  How about the commute??  Simple things like staff restaurant?  Do they have a gym?  Changing facilities (good if you cycle or like to go for a run at lunch)?  Close to shops or a park??  

    Crucially do you know anyone who works at the new place?  You can google to find sites where people rate how much they like who they work for but I'm not convinced that will help.  I worked at a place that people raved about and I found it toxic and so did some other people that I enjoyed working with.  Hence the need to ask someone you trust.

    Cheers guys, so on call at the moment, I probably don't go out well over half the time, and usually max 1 to 3 jobs a weekend, at the new place I won't be sure how often till I leave. 
    I'm field based totally in new position but current position is 75 field 25 office based. So no on site gym, cafe etc. 
    The role I would be filling at new place was only held for just over 1.5 years by previous person, so could that be a red flag, also they were furloughed for a lot of that time !!!
