Differences in redeployment and assimilation?

Restructure at work. Only one person has a vastly different job role/responsibility.
Long story short - just moved the admin for two teams to be under one roof. One post has been removed and that employee offered same role as me. It’s a much different job. He’s had a small drop in salary, I’ve increased and two posts are the same. About 8 people affected.
Was wondering what the difference between assimilation and redeployment? I was made redundant, offered a similar role and responsibility level. I have no issue with the move.

I think the simplest way to grasp the two concepts is that assimilation refers to the scope of the job and the extent to which duties undertaken in one role are transferred to (assimilated into) a new role; redeployment describes what happens to an individual if they are offered an alternative role as a means of avoiding redundancy.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -

Restructure at work and 8 people made redundant. We were all offered new jobs and didn’t have to apply for our new positions.7 people doing much the same job as before and at the same responsibility level. Of these 7 people, 5 received a pay raise from their previous salary. The salary isn’t relevant so we can disregard.1 person is doing a very different job than he did before.Would it be fair to say we were all made redundant and choose to be redeployed? Or would we be assimilated to the new role? There is an option to take redundancy should we wish.0 -

As I've mentioned above, assimilation normally refers to the duties within the job, and redeployment refers to the people taking on new roles. Is there a reason you're so concerned about what seems to me an issue of semantics - perhaps something relating to pensions, or a term in your contract?Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
