Thought I'd update you on my progress.

I went to my local Seasalt sale shop and bought 2 skirts and 2 dresses. I'm delighted with my purchases.

Thank you all for your advice.

And it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when I wear a dress from Monsoon and my friend wears one in a similar style and I know she's paid around £75.00 and mine came from a charity shop and cost me about a fiver.

I have bought from eBay but I do like to be sure of the fit before I buy.

Me too! I use charity shops and eBay to get things from shops I consider too expensive to buy new from! If I ever went on one of those money saving programmes where they look through all your stuff they would conclude I spend a lot on clothes, due to all the labels in my wardrobe, but it is an extravagant day if I spend more than £10 on anything! I got a Ted Baker dress for my cousin's wedding for about £6 a couple of years ago. It needed a tiny bit of adjusting which fortunately my talented mum could do for me, but even if I'd paid for professional alterations it still wouldn't have been anywhere near the price the dress would have been originally. Also, I know that price does not always equal quality but sometimes it does, so I hope that buying second hand clothes that were originally from expensive places means they will be better quality and will last longer.

I have bought quite a lot of clothes on eBay auctions since the Covid lockdowns.  Although most of them are second hand there are quite a lot that have never been used.  I have bought 2 pairs of M & S trousers that had not been worn, high quality 100% cotton, in my exact size and they fit perfectly.  Roughly £7 each including postage.

In the past I have bought an Ann Harvey jacket in silk/linen for £5, never been worn and a Windsmoor cashmere/wool jacket for £8, looks like new.  I love Windsmoor but their retail prices can be stratospheric.

I do look on Ebay for new items. Got a Joules jumper from there last year. There are certainly bargains out there and online shopping is a lot quicker than going into a town to shop.

Online shopping from places like M&S, John Lewis, Next etc is very different from buying from eBay - specifically in regard to returns.

You need to know if something is going to fit when you buy it from eBay unless you intend to resell if it doesn't fit/suit.

Exactly. There are some items, like swimming costumes and shoes, that I need to try on for size.
