Should backdated salary increase include overtime worked during that period?

Hello i hope someone can offer some advice...

Q1. Salary Increase in Writing

My partner has been advised by her manager verbally that she and others will be getting a salary increase.
When asked if she'll get confirmation in writing they said "probably not" but they'll see the increase on their online payslip system.
Does anyone know if they legally obliged to notify of this increase in writing?

Q2. Backdated Overtime
She has been told that this increase will be backdated to cover April to July but they've said it won't apply to any overtime worked during this period.
They have worked a LOT of overtime and with salary increase being backdated surely this should cover all hours worked including any overtime.
(After all they would have got the extra overtime pay if the increase had actually been applied in April.)
Should the backdated salary increase include overtime worked during that period? or is this at their discretion?

Thanks

No, it need not be in writing.
No, they don't have to backdate the overtime. They don't *have* to back date the salary increase, either.
( unless, in either case, the old rate was below minimum wage, in which case they have to ay at least minimum wage for the hours worked)

If pay rise is backdated it would seem logical that overtime working in the period of backdating should be paid at the higher rate too.  I don't know if there is any legal requirement to do so.

If they don't backdate overtime it has the potential to be a real money saver for the employer.  Keep delaying the pay rise but promise it will be backdated and they can save a fortune on the overtime bill.
