FTC Extension

Hi There, I am currently coming towards the end of a 12 month FTC,

I had a conversation 2 months ago via email with my line manager who confirmed via email, that contracts would be extended for a further 6 months.

I asked for paperwork from HR to finalize this and was told it would be sent in due course.

I chased again 1 month ago, an received the same response.

I have chased again today, and been told that this will now only be for 3 months.

I know it was confirmed in an email, but where do i stand on the legality of my employer changing this after agreeing?

Thanks for your help

Minds have been changed, HR will simply impose corporate will through your line manager, it's unlikely you will persuade him otherwise.

Thanks for the reply, I suspected this to be the case. So the email confirming end date of 6 months time would not hold any weight in this case either?

You need to look at the 'long game'.  There may be another extension at the end of the now revised 3 month extension.  If you want to be certain that won't happen, butt heads with the company now.

What is the notice period in the contract?

You are effectively on a rolling FTC as long as the notice period

As are all employees till they hit 2 years service when redundancy rules kick in.

What is the wording in the email. Does it say clearly they are extending your contract by 6 months and it will run out on x date?

If so then i think this forms a contract surely, did you reply and exept it?
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
