This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning, seems like it's going to be another hot day today, yesterday was a scorcher. We had booked to go to Alnw*ck Garden, it was beautiful there, the rose garden is my favourite bit of the garden and it was lovely.Normally we go into the town as well, but we thought it was just too hot, so just stayed in the garden for longer.I've got an appointment at Sp*csavers this morning to sort out a problem with my hearing aids, they've told me I'm using too many batteries, so they want to investigate the aids to see why. I must be hearing too much.Ruby, I hope you and the family are improving a bit, don't do too much.Nanny sorry to read that DH is still not well.Thoughts to the rest of our poorly people, and those struggling with life.Take care folks12

Good morning everyone
I struggled with sleep last night due to the excessive heat. Even with the fan on it didn't make much difference and I had to get up and come downstairs for an hour in the middle of the night. I feel better now though and I am going to have a wash and get dressed in a minute. My sister and her husband are coming over around 10ish as she was busy yesterday and didn't get here. I want to make sure the living room is cool.
Steve washed and redressed my leg yesterday and he did a fabulous job and was much gentler than the nurses, I think I will keep him for a bit longer. He has been an absolute star looking after me and the kids, I couldn't ask for better.
We are having roast chicken, mash and beans for dinner. Lee got his tongue pierced a few days ago and is properly hungry so at least he can join in with some of the meal. I will make him up another jelly as well.
Hope all the other poorly people are on the mend too. Scarlet I don't know how on earth you are supposed to hear too muchwhat a funny thing. Hope they find out what has been eating up your batteries.
Have a great day if you can and take care xx11 -
Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off Scarlet. The rose garden is so beautiful when in full bloom, especially in the sunshine.Nan - I hope that Mr Fix-it begins to enjoy his food soon. And ditto to Ruby. Here it's still dull and now damp. Yesterday the clouds almost lifted though the sun never made an appearance. It was warm, windy and dry enough for my washing load to be put on the line. I mowed the lawn in the afternoon. Last week I had bought a collapsible garden bin to put the green bin bag in so emptying the mowings was so much easier. Collapsing and closing the garden bin was a bit of a challenge as the hoops really want to be big and tall rather than squashed and flat. I'll learn the knack soon, for now it's upright still in the middle of the barn. 😀😀 Some battles are not worth the effort!Apart from that my Saturday was not really productive, I cleared the jumble from the living room by moving it to join the mountain on the spare bed. It all became a little overwhelming so I decided to mostly rest until I go back down to DM's place. I will direct all my energies there this coming week. I aim to have it completely cleared by a week on Tuesday.Instead of clearing I drove into my wee town and had a wander down the Main street, bought from the butcher and deli and came back. I can't cook just now as my induction hob has developed a huge crack on one side so will need replaced. ☹️As DM had a direct cremation without any mourners I've now organised a wee celebration of life at a nearby old church turned pub / restaurant which has a lovely upstairs room for private parties. The date has been set so today I'll have a go at designing invitations. That'll keep me out of mischief on this damp day.Happy Sunday to all. 🌺12

Good Morning,
I hope you don’t mind me rejoining you all after so long?Hasn’t the weather been lovely, at last. Although, I did not get out yesterday as I seemed to eat something that gave me stomach ache. Today though, once DH is up, the bed linen is going to be be washed and line dried.
apologies if there are any typos, but I need to get my eyes tested for reading glasses, everything is a little blurry!I do need to complete a granny square mini skirt that my niece asked if I could make for her, a bit trial and error .... wondering on the best way to do the top ... I will you tube for inspiration.
hope you all have a lovely Sunday, and thoughts for all those who are struggling.

Morning everyone
Yesterday was very hot here too though a bit breezy. I did a little tidying in the garden but mostly sat and read. It was after 7 when I realised I hadn't finished packing my bag to go to London this morning - not that I need much for 2 days!
I'm looking forward to it, but also feeling a bit apprehensive of being amongst so many people. My mask will be on all the time!
Has anyone seen the picture of Bournemouth beach on the front of today's Sunday Times - it's jam packed - that wouldn't be my idea of fun even without Covid.
My DD and little one will pop in to feed my 2 cats, it's been so hot they're hiding under the beds so as long as they get fed, they'll be fine.
Well I'd better go - have a nice few days everyone. 'See' you all on Wednesday.11 -
Morning folks and thanks SCARLET. How on earth the poor folk in Canada are coping with their heatwave well into the 40's I can't imagine. We hit a high of 30 deg up here yesterday and that was more than high enough for me. Too hot for sitting out in, so my reading was done indoors.
My early bus trip into town yesterday was quite bearable. There were only 2 of us on the little bus, both going down and coming back up, and as all the windows were open it was quite pleasant with the breeze blowing through. I got everything on my little list and, once home, I thought I would check how I was doing saving my Boots points for another bottle of Flowerbomb. A lovely surprise as they are doing an online only offer of 20% of all Flowerbomb! My lucky day! So I ordered a bottle quick smart and still have points left to start saving towards my NEXT bottle!!
Not a lot has been done as yet this morning! Poached egg on toast for brekkie and the little pan and plate just filled the last gap in the dw so that is now chugging away. Other than meals I can't see any more jobs getting done today, too hot for that lark. My de-cluttering started earlier in the week has ground to a standstill but will resume when temps permit!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, woeful and convalescents. Take care one and all xx
Quick edit to welcome back PEONY and wish DP1 a nice couple of days away.

Morning All
No sunshine yet but the last few days have been cloudy to start with. Washing can go in once I've had a shower, should dry quickly.
I have friends coming for lunch, we usually go away for a few days each year but not at the moment so a good catch up is in order. I'm sure some gin will be involved and I'm doing some greek food.
Yesterday was shopping, allotment and reading - I was pretending to be on holiday laid on my sun lounger, all that was missing was the pool, the children's paddling pool seemed like too much effort to put up!
Nice to see you peony.
I would love to visit Alnwick Gardens, maybe I'll get there one day.
Sounds like you're getting organised at home Gers, take your time.
Hoping the poorlies are feeling better today.
Enjoy your trip to London dp1.
Shower time, then I'm cooking Spanokopita. Take care. XX9 -
Good morning all. Bright and sunny here again so I have the patio door and all the windows open at the back but the fan on inside and the curtains closed.
We've had busy times here with a new patio being laid. It's not quite finished and we've been asked not to step on it over the weekend but I've managed to get out onto the grass and hang up the washing; can't waste the fine weather!
We spontaneously treated ourselves to a new patio set of table, chairs and parasol yesterday as well. It was the last one and on display so we asked for a discount and got a lower price, plus DH took out one of their loyalty cards and got a fair amount of money on it - MSE result!
Am defrosting some h/m Thai chicken curry for dinner later and will cook a bit of rice to go with it. Neither of us are very fond of rice but it does hit the spot sometimes.
Other than that I plan to make some biscuits, as the tin is empty, and see what the day brings.
Have a good day everyone.12 -
Morning all, another scorcher! Yesterday we had a little trip up the motorway to a farm shop near Garstang. The mechanic said we have to go a longer trip than the school run or shopping to keep the filter clear on the car. After 2 months without it we took his advice! Glad we set off early though, the traffic jam going the other way when we were coming home was awful- everyone going to the coast I presume. We had a bbq last night using some of the goodies we bought.Camelot, I made spanokopita recently, very nice they were too- enjoy your day.Gers, I think you deserve a bit of a rest. The cake was appreciated by the birthday boy and DGC- it was a simple sponge with jam ,and buttercream on the top too.I added some haribos and candles. Actually I think the haribos were the most popular bitWe're off to an artisan market soon, then calling at our friends on the way back as she has been in hospital.Have a good trip dp1, glad you enjoyed yours nmlc. Hi Peony, welcome backWell spotted with the flowerbomb TAScarlet- hope they sort out your hearing aidHH I hope the sulks pass quick.Dumpling enjoy seeing your sister.Hugs to the RRubies & other poorlies. Take care all and dont forget your suncream x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)11

Morning all
Another scorcher here I must try and find the energy to get out and water the plants later poor things really need a drink, I managed to eat a burger and a handfull of chips last night so felt tiny bit better, we were all in bed by 9 and slept all night so that must be doing us some good.
Tomorrow is supposed to be freedom day but im not sure we should be out and about yet feeling like we do, we shall see how we feel in the morning, I would hate to pass this onto anyone else.
No real dinners planned we are just eating what we fancy, the fridge is full so we wont starve.
Have good days all and stay safe xxx9
