This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning, it's a bright start today - yesterday was grey and gloomy, then hot and sunny, strange weather.Sorry to read that you've been so poorly Dumpling, and that the news is not so good for your sister. Thanks all for the good wishes for our boiler day yesterday! It went well, no problems thank heavens. The new boiler is well and truly installed. TA, we had a full replacement of all pipes and radiators 11 years ago when we last had a new boiler. I remember trying to keep the house tidy, but as more floorboards were taken up and the then old boiler taken off the wall I had to give up and we camped out in one room for the duration.Ruby, hope you'll all start picking up soon, it sounds absolutely awful.Great to hear from you Nanny, what a sweetheart your Mr Fixit is!!Rosy, hope dear/daft dog is recovering.Camelot I laughed about the old folks gossiping in the pool, it mustn't occur to them that people go to actually swim!Hope poor little Sparkle starts feeling better soon TA.We were going to have Dgs for the day today but DD tsxted last night to say he's developed a cough and is very clingy, so we'll see.I've forgotten what else I was going to say, I had something in my mind, but it's gone - couldn't have been important.Hope all is well for everyone today, take care folks12

Morning folks and thanks SCARLET for the new Daily. Thanks for the uplifting info re the new boiler/new pipework that I have to look forward to!!! It sounds as though I have made the right decision to go to the van for a few days and then do a mass clean up when I return!
DUMPLING I was so sorry to read you have been so poorly again. Can't they give you any indication as to what causes the sepsis to flare up? And your poor sister too, it's no wonder your DM is in bits worrying about you both. Much love.
As usual I had a lovely away-day with my bus buddies yesterday but, blooming heck, it was warm on the bus behind the masks. There were 2 young women in front of us, totally mask free, chatting and laughing away for the length of the journey! We thought who is daft here, us or them! From the 19th that will probably be the norm sadly. Anyway we had a good day but my no-spending didn't happen. I succumbed to a lovely top I didn't need in the Fat Face sale but it was half price so that sort of qualifies for MSE I suppose! Lunch as always was enjoyed, as was the wine, and much chatting was done until it was time for the bus home.
The sun is shining and it's forecast to reach 23 deg so I will address the kitchen and bathroom cleaning first job and then the garden and my book will beckon.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies and woeful. DUMPLING you take care. HESTER hope you finally get good news on your car. ROSY I hope Laila is on the mend (Sparkle is now back to herself after the 2 jabs so obviously working and worth the expense!!) Take care one and all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -
Good morning everyone
I had a few more hours sleep last night and feel a bit better. I was very happy to wake up at home though and have a proper cup of tea this morning.
I am expecting a visit from the district nurses today to show me and Steve how to manage my leg. I am not really looking forward to it as Steve is very cross with the nurses that none of the warning signs of cellulitis were picked up. I'm not upset with them, I personally think Steve feels a bit responsible too and is just scared he could have lost me. Anyway, I shall see how it all goes.
All I am doing today is resting and recovering. I expect my sisters will come and see me too.
Take care everyone xx11 -
Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off Scarlet. It's such good news about your boiler installation, you'll be cosy this winter.Dumpling - what a shock for you again. It's good that more investigations are going to be done on you. My heart goes out to you sister too, fingers are crossed here for a good result.Nan - how sweet of Mr-Fixit, all your effort and care for him is clearly deeply appreciated. 🌺Yesterday my breakfast was lovely, perfectly poached eggs is something I still can't do well. Afterwards I posted my wall hanging off to get restored. In the late afternoon two neighbours came to shift the hostess trolley, they are even taking it to the tip for me. 🎉 I asked if they wanted the butchers block thing on wheels, the wife jumped at it so they took that as well. 😄 Slowly but surely things are going.Ursula's collection of old glasses worried me. They are so beautiful and belonged to her grandparents so date from probably 1920s. I texted the person who arranged for the three piece suite going to a props company and now the glasses will be going there too. 😀😀Today I have a haircut then the auctioneer's collection chappies are coming to for the things going off for auction. In a couple of weeks BHF will be taking most of the rest. I was going to leave my bed until after that but changed my mind. I can stay with Alan if I need to be here past 26 July.Once the items have been collected I'm going to head home. I'm looking forward to seeing the fresh paintwork in the kitchen and utility room along with the two holes repaired. Somehow I have to fit everything I've brought from here into my postage sized cottage. 🤭Tomorrow and Monday are local holidays in Glasgow, the start of Fair Fortnight so I expect busy roads then.Anyway...my thoughts are still with the missing abs poorlies, just a wee peek in would be good.Happy Thursday to all.12

Morning all...Still sunny! Curtains staying shut today to keep heat out. More riddling done yesterday, I might finish it off by the weekend. I sent my cousin pictures of the garden and she said it looks like Monty Dons garden. I was chuffed even if I know it doesn't
Sending her pictures has shown me how grubby the cotswold chippings look in the front, so theyll be next on the list to get replaced. Today I'll be doing more of the same. And I've kind of decided we need just a little bit more grass cleared so I can put a few more stones down. It's only a little area but it's chock full of weeds. OH has agreed to do it the weekend. Yay.
OH has had his super-duper quick smart electrification done to his bicycle. He got it back yesterday in time to use it for work and back and he's very impressed and quite scared of how fast he can go. So he's taken my bicycle in so they can convert that too. Joy...Nah, I'm looking forward to remembering how not to fall over or off.Rosy, that sounds nice, glad they enjoyed it! Ruby, get well soon! Nanny, happy painting...and how sweet of him. He must have been bad to pass up a new toy...Hope he gets some rest and recuperation...Gers and camelot, I see your Harrison Ford with Tom Hardy in CardiffBoth sadly too far away for me though...[but not for my cousin and she's not even fussed on him..
] dumpling, must be nice to be out of hospital. Try to stay that way...Best wishes and have a nice day's to any readers along who want one...Happy sunny day again...

Morning All
The sun has been shining for hours, think we're in for a hot one today. Yesterday was really warm although the sun wasn't out all day, in fact there was a slight drizzle when I went to bed.
Hope you have a speedy recovery dumpling and there's a plan B for your sister.
Enjoy your newly decorated kitchen Gers.
How lovely of Mr Fixit Nanny, I think he's a keeper!
Get well wishes to Ruby's household.
Happy new boiler Scarlet!
Not much going on here today, I want to insulate the kitchen floor (it can be accessed from the cellar) so waiting to hear from the builder to let me know what I've to buy - don't think it will be cheap but it'll be a lot warmer in the winter.
Swimming later with DD, will probably need to cool down by then!
Have a good day, take care. XX11 -
Morning all.
Thanks for the thread Scarlet and hugs to all those in need especially Dumpling and family.
I'm still getting the runaround about my car, the latest is 'it's being re-sprayed and now they are saying it can't be collected even when it is ready as covid rules mean it has to be delivered! The garage are in for a shock, I shall get my DS2 to go and we what's happening. He was a mechanic before he became a firefighter.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Good morning, after a dull start the skies have cleared and it looks lovely again now.Dumpling sorry to read you've been so poorly again.Hope the docs can come up with something to stop it happening again, hugs for you and your sister.Another short walk across the road for Daft dog, leg is definitely on the mend.Yesterday I planted up the new plants we got on Tuesday from the sm, or should I say rescued - we left a lot of plants there that looked parched & half dead, such a waste!DS2 and the kids stayed for tea last night, I'd taken beef stew out of the freezer. Not really weather appropriate but he likes it, and it frees up some space. They were all fighting over the crusty bread
, not hm but I need to make 1 today. No sm delivery today or veg box, got a few bits when we got the plants on Tuesday, but it seems strange not to have my deliveries on a Thursday.
TA, I caught the bus on Monday into town, it was so warm with the mask on - I had to keep mopping my browNot sure what we're eating tonight, I'd have a nice salad but the menfolk aren't as keen.Best wishes to the poorlies.Enjoy the sunshine x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning, hugs if you need one.
Dumpling, so sorry to hear you have not been well again, hope the plans work out for your sister.
Hester - giving up driving is an ongoing concern with me. I did say I was going to give up at 80 in 2 years time......we will have to make some big adjustments if I do. Our local bus service is carp and taxi fares just stupid, groceries are not a problem, but even a visit to the Drs in the next village is.
Yesterday was very warm again, garden had to be watered last night especially the hanging baskets which seem to droop very quickly.
DB is in the garden fiddling with a new bed, his time is almost up, will put the kettle on for tea.
Supper tonight will be bacon frittata and salad. We are now onto raspberries, the strawberries having finished and its time to pin down runners to replace the plants that have been taken out. WE run on a 3 year cycle.

Morning all, it's a bit overcast but warm and I had all intentions of doing things that have been put on the back burner for the last month as I only kept the house ticking over .... and yes there is a list, but I don't feel like moving off the sofa yet, perhaps later. I want to get out in the garden and give it a bit of love but it may be just to read my book if the sun arrives. The grass is still knee high and the weeds........ well the less said about them the better but I fear I'm fighting a losing battle as Joan's garden looks very jungle like with horse tails and brambles and the former are trying to take hold here too 🤬 No one has visited next door since she left for the home at least 2 years ago 😟My M&S flowers are beautiful and really starting to open but unfortunately the chocs haven't fared well, the box is a bit empty already and I can't even blame Mr Fix It, it's all my own doing, oops ! He's still not 100% so nursie will be on hand again.Dumpling sorry you have been in hospital again, please look after yourself. Many hugs for your sister, cancer is a terrible disease.taff if you and your DH are available, you could have a go at my garden too. BTW you didn't tell me Tom H was in Cardiff ! I love a bit of Tom but not Jones, he's way to old for me, I need a toy boy 🤣Rosy glad the dog's leg is on the mend.Scarlett glad the new boiler installation was successful.TA I find the mask wearing dreadful as I get so hot too. Dippy D says we have to keep them for now here in Wales.Take care all, keep safe. Hugs to the poorly ones or those struggling with every day life.nan xx
