This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks. We are definitely missing NMLC - I hope that all's well.My drive down was lovely, not too much slow traffic apart from one car who was tootling along at 30mph on a 60mph road. The driver beeped at me when I overtook him / her which cheered me up. 🤣🤣
My gardener came yesterday and got stuck in again. She's patiently weeding amongst the large bed of daisys. There's loads of grasses growing there too. She also cut back two wild bushes which will eventually come out. I was delighted when she found one hellebore, still with a flower, and a sad looking genum. My tyre pressure warning alarm came on just before I left. The gardener produced a portable inflator, checked all my tyres and re-inflated the one which needed air. I was very impressed. I've also now ordered a device for myself. 😎
Once here I organised the auctioneer company to collect the items to be sold, drivers are coming on Thursday, then I organised an uplift of furniture by BHF for later in the month and finally provisionally booked a local venue for a gathering in late September. This will be a celebration of Ursula's life, fizz and nibbles only.
Today will be a busy one. The Dutchman is coming this morning to pack more stuff. Whilst he's here I'll be doing a tip run ☹️ a CS drop and then a visit to the PO. I'm sending off an embroidered wall hanging to be cleaned and restored. My grandmother worked it in the early 60s and it's one of my treasures. It's going to the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace so will need to be boxed or wrapped well. This afternoon I'll be housebound whilst my lovely car gets some TLC. That'll give me time to pack up more of my own things.Ruby - I really hope you are starting to feel better, as well as DD. What a fright fir you all. Big hugs.Happy Tuesday to all.12 -
Good morning and thanks for starting Gers. It's a damp grey morning here, a British summer day.Ruby, what a terrible time you're having, your poor DD - I do hope she'll be ok, and also you and your DH, thoughts to you all.Your Dgd sounds to be a sensible young woman TA, hope things work out for her.I had an eye test yesterday, and needed new glasses, so there's a chunk of money gone, and we're having a new boiler put in tomorrow, so that's another big spend - we've kept our boiler limping along through last winter, but knew it would have to be replaced before another winter, so we have no choice.I'll have to get a job at this rate, if anyone wanted a 73 year old with a few health problems but hard working and good natured I'm your woman.Gers, seems like another part of your life is starting, now you're back home and getting settled.Thinking of you and DH Nanny, it's been a stressful time for you both.Dgd came for her tea after school yesterday, back in the old routine, and we're out at the quiz tonight so things are slowly resuming.Hope everyone has a good day anyway, take care folks.12

Morning folks and thanks GERS. I too have been wondering if NMLC is ok, she doesn't usually disappear. I worry when friends on here go MIA.
RUBY I hope you all had a better night last night, you have been in my thoughts. This bl**dy virus takes no prisoners does it and seems to affect everybody one way or another. Eldest DGD (16) managed to get a Council summer job as a Young Covid Ambassador and had to have 3 nights training last week and 3 more this week. Yesterday she got a message telling her to isolate as someone in the training group had tested positive and this weeks training would be on zoom! So she is now missing school as well!
Yesterday the blooming rain hammered down on and off most of the day. All the gardens look a bit battered and have been well and truly watered. Today no rain forecast, nor any sun! Just cloud but, as I speak, I can see pockets of blue sky emerging, so we may be lucky.
I made a start on the decluttering yesterday!! I started with the contents of Toys-R-Us! All the toys, games and books that the girls have outgrown over the years and through all the lockdowns are getting pruned! They are getting bagged and labelled and are now lined up in the garage waiting for DD to advertise them free to good homes. Still more to sort through so that may get done today.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Last day NAN I hope the treatment achieves all they are hoping. Take care one and all. Keep safe xx

Morning All
Dull and grey this morning but due to brighten up later, I've stripped my bed and will hang that out when it's finished in the WM.
Yesterday stayed warm and sunny until about 5pm when the heavens opened so at least I'll not have to water the garden or allotment today. The sweet peas are flowering well, I have two vases in the house and so many more coming on, I love to see them both inside and out, they cheer me up!
Hope you're all struggling along Ruby and your DD is over her nasty fall, so lucky you were both home.
Where are you nmlc? Missing your posts.
Also missing Marie, dumpling and tru, hope you're all OK.
Your work seems never ending Gers, sounds like you have organised everything.
Thinking of you Nanny.
I'm taking the little one to the pool this morning whilst DD has a swim. We have a ball to take to chase about the pool, should be fun!
Happy Tuesday, take care. XX10 -
Morning all. If it's anything like yesterday I can't tell you what the weather is doing or going to do because it changes every half hour...Sun rain, wind, sun, rain, more rain, dry, windy,sun...you get the picture. It was like living in a Turner painting yesterday. Didn't get an awful lot done, finally sewed my hooks and loops on the duvet and two duvet covers and put one back on the bed. I tied all the straps first before I turned it inside out and there was a lot less huffing and puffing than usual. A bit of confusion once you started turning it the right side round though... And the cat thought jumping inside and under the quilt was a great game. Did some Italian, I can now hire a car or a bicycle and bring it back....:)My tile sealer has arrived so I could do that in the kitchen and bathroom today. I could go nuts and rip up the hallway carpet...I might do that anyway, there are quarry tiles underneath and I want to see what condition they're in. This is what lack of being able to potter in the garden does, it makes me look for other, more destructive things to do...Fun though.Oh Ruby, what an awful shock for you. This definitely qualifies as your annus horribilis, I hope you two are doing OK today and your DD..TA, how cool for your DD. I hope they can see past waif like sylphs and pick her and congrats on the decluttering...Hester, that sounds like a right pain in the backside...Nanny, breathe a big sigh of home relief after today? Bet relaxing or even just normal appointments are going to feel like a breeze after the slog. Gers, I'm sure you can get better DIY advice from the board, I'm just a gifted, but clumsy amateur with ideas... it's almost finished now, home stretch, literally I suppose....Have a good day iff you can, if you can't, come and tell us about it...We will empathise...*edited for no other reason than I missed out countless letters and added some that weren't supposed to be there...Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...9

Oops hit the wrong button.
I thought nmlc was on holiday but I could be wrong.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.10 -
Hi everyone,
Ruby, how horrible for you, you would have thought the hospital would have some sort of isolation room for such situations, people don't stop having accidents when they are covid positive.
Gers, I haven't been able to say congratulations on the sale yet, it took 18 months for mum's house to finally be off our hands so I can only marvel at the speed in Scotland.
After Esben being ill on Friday Laura got the bug and spent yesterday in bed. Luckily it's a short-lived one and she felt better by evening. She and Brian are going to L'Enclume in Cartmel for lunch (a birthday treat) so it's lucky that she's feeling better as they would have been charged £160 for cancelling!
We will be looking after Esben and Ziggy so I hope the weather cheers up a bit then we can get out with them both. If it doesn't Steve will have to take Ziggy by himself.11 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. (Gets) you are doing so well.
Having to write on my tablet, lap topis having a hissy fit, it's connected to the internet but seems to be very slow, and then not connecting!! Hey ho.
Visit town this morning, I want to check out a new phone at Tesco, loyalty counts for nothing these days. We then need to go to the builders yard and see about the gravel for the green house. Will fill the car up at Tesco.
Dr's yesterday with DB. His blood test shows he is pr diabetic, something else for him to stress about. No biscuits, cake etc he will have to go back to Weetabix and less on his plate. Exercise is a problem as neither of us can walk very well. We do garden but even that is restricted especially for me.
Ruby, I hope things are settling down a bit for you all and you will soon feel better. I would be tempted to take the bolt off the bathroom door, you could always hang a notice in the door to indicate the bathroom is occupied.
Supper will be salmon and salad, it's cooking now, neither of us like it hot.8 -
Morning everyone
Cloudy here this morning but still warm - better than yesterday's on/off rain. Though DD had a lovely run around in it before DD picked her up - she was just in her vest and knickers. She took the knickers off and threw them round the garden and then cleaned the top of her sandpit with them - as you do!
The man came with the required part yesterday morning and fixed my upstairs loo - it took him about 3 minutes.
I don't start work till lunchtime today - I have a few jobs to do. Then little one's daddy is dropping her off at teatime to stay, so DD can go out for a drink with a friend. I don't usually have her on a school night in case she wakes during the night, but fingers crossed she'll be ok.
Well I'd better get on. Hope everyone has a good day and your DD is feeling better Redruby.
