Trade union

Hi I would like some advise please, I was in a Trade Union, they failed to support me. I made 3 complaints in 10 months. Each time I received no outcome. The last complaint was made to the General Secretary on the 31st March 2021. I have emailed them several times to enquire about my complaint and how it is being processed. I keep being told wait to hear form us. I have now lost my job, and had no support from my union. They had my custom for many years, I am left shocked to see that a Union behaved in such a way. Who can I turn to for help ?

    No outcome or no response?

If they're doing a full investigation, then that is probably all they can tell you.

Without knowing what your complaints are about and how your union dealt with them (for instance, did they believe you had valid complaints against your employer?) it's impossible to answer.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

The original complaint should have went to the branch secretary (as an individual you are a member of a branch), did it?
Were you given poor advice or did they fail to provide representation?
Why did you lose you job? Is it possible the branch, who had the facts, were of the opinion you had no case?

Did they fail to provide advice at all, or is it simply that they didn't give the answers or get the result that you wanted.

Were your 3 complaints about the employer or the union?
  • I had a representative who failed to provide advise, she failed to stop a meeting when i asked if the meeting can be stopped as I did not have the information to provide answers. I complained to the union about this experience , they just ignored over 20 emails i sent asking for some guidance, advise & support on my situation at work. Unfair procedures were being followed and i had no idea what to do. Second complaint was to some one higher up, they ignored me again. 3rd complaint was to the General secretary and I still haven't heard anything. I was facing a very traumatic situation, lost my job my union was meant to advice  and guide me through and help me understand what was happening .  This was what I paid them for and I was left to cope through horrendous incidents all on my own .

your TU rep accompanied you to these meetings, unfortunately they cannot answer direct questions on your behalf. The company you were with would have outlined the potential for dismissal depending on the issue or severity of the judgement.

How long were you employed and were you aware of the appeal process that could have been followed?

This should have been clearly explained to you at the meetings where your Union Rep was in attendance. In essence they are present to ensure that the process undertaken is fair.
