Old Style Daily Sunday 11 July 2021

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning folks.Yesterday was very peaceful though my mind was whirring like an out of control washing machine. I filled two black bags and I'm sure that there'll be more today. I'm calling 'rationalising' now as I'm unpacking my own stuff from Glasgow. I went there over two years ago with four pairs of knickers and brought back 14 pairs. Now I have enough knickers to form a substantial length of bunting. 🤣
The flies are driving me mad. I like my doors open in summer as much as possible and these blessed things seem to find their way in but not out. Most evenings before bed I have to clear them somehow. The how is either sucking up them with the handheld vacuum or, in desperation using the spray.I'm tempted to change my bed linen but I think the forecast isn't too good. We'll see.Ruby - I'm sending you and your DD a seriously big parcel of good vibes wrapped in get well soon hugs.I hope that everyone has a good Sunday. 🧁12 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all those in need.
Another overcast day here, we've had no sun for three weeks.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester.Chin up, Titus out.11 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS for our start. The weather doesn't know what to do just now. It was very misty when I got up but now the sun is breaking through, though the forecast says it will rain this afternoon. So a bit of everything!
Nothing much in store today. Tennis watching this afternoon with an interruption when my Tesco delivery arrives. Then football tonight. In among whatever I cba doing. That'll be not a lot then as I feel half doped.. Whilst I was at the van I had loads of jobs planned for my return home (top of the list being resuming my clear out which came to a halt 12 months ago!) but maybe I will start tomorrow!
DD and middle DGD are currently on their way to Leeds for an audition (ballet and theatrical). DGD doesn't sound very hopeful but she can only do her best. A lot of their lessons have been on zoom throughout the last 16 months which isn't the same as being in the dance studio and she seems to have lost her confidence.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies and woeful. Plus all the MIA. Take care one and all xx

Morning everyone
I've been ordering a pink tepee for my garden for little one - it took a ridiculous amount of time to choose it! I'm sure she'll love it. I got one which seems big enough for granny to fit in too.
I got all my ironing done yesterday and the grass cut at the back too - it was so long that it was wet underneath. I cut it and then let it dry and went over it again.
Also went into town to collect my prescription and got a couple of new to me tops at one of the charity shops.
Gers - excellent news about your sale, though it must feel very sad too.
RedRuby - I hope your DD feels better soon - it sounds awful.
Covid cases in our little town have soared this week and lots of businesses have had to close for staff to isolate. The town was crammed with holidaymakers yesterday - I didn't stay too long, even though I'm vaccinated.
Well I'd better move and get my dishes washed.
Then I'm off down to dad's while mam goes to church.
Hope everyone who likes football enjoys it later...hopefully I'll hear some cheers at some point.
The kids at our school are allowed to come in late tomorrow if they've been watching - 10.30 is the cut-off time before they're marked down as absent.
Have a good day everyone10 -
Morning All
Overcast again this morning with showers overnight, I think more are due later. Washing can go on the pulley.
I'm sort of glad it's not sunshine today, the inside of the house could do with a bit of attention. I've started by cleaning both bathrooms and the windows upstairs, I'll do the rest in a bit. I think the window cleaner is due this week so I'll be able to see out again!
One of the beds upstairs has been made up, another two to go, the rooms look so much better with made beds. I may start a bit of decluttering today but I always think I'll keep everything as it all has a home! I seem to have amassed loads of handbags but always use a rucksack unless it's a special occasion, maybe I'll look at those again.
Have you got a fly curtain Gers? I bought some yellow sticky sheets to keep by the kitchen window that seem to work quite well. Your bunting sounds interesting!
I'm sure your DGD will do well TA.
Hope you're all feeling better today Ruby.
Thinking of you Marie.
Have a happy Sunday. Take care. XX11 -

Dull and over cast here but sun is due out later, not that we can go anywhere ! I have taken dd some juice and a cup of tea and will do her some breakfast after this, she is eating tiny amounts and she said its a horrible sensation not being able to taste or smell anything, apparantly you can still taste lemon juice so we tried a spoonful of that yesterday and yes its true ! her face was a picture, I might make a lemon pudding of some description.
OH and I still feel rough but nowhere near as rough as dd, I did a test yesterday that has been sent off so should get the results today.
Its very odd not being able to go anywhere, the only time we are going out is to walk the dogs and then its a quick scurry around the field avoiding anyone we see.
Gers I love the sound of your bunting
Have good days all xx11 -
Morning all, just lost a long post because I had to sign in again mid posting 😡The weather isn't great nor was yesterday's, sun, cloud rain and drizzle, not very conducive to doing anything remotely outdoorsy. Yesterday I did get off my backside and I do some cleaning of the bathroom and kitchen and there's more I want/need to do today but I cba at the mo. How come things get so mucky when we haven't been here much ? I want to colour my hair too and I have 2 boxes to use this time, one isn't enough as my hair is too long now.Roll on Tuesday when the treatments are finished and we can come out of isolation as I have a list of places I want to visit for different items. Woohoo ! I need to see family too as we haven't seen them face to face for a monthI'll love you and leave you now, hugs to anyone that needs one.Take care allnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently10

Morning, hugs if you need one.
I hate flies, last back end I bought a metal door curtain, its a bit like chain mail, fed up with the cheap ones disintegrating after a few weeks and tangling up in the wind. Its much better but we still get flies in. DB is a menace with the fly swatter, misses more than he hits.
The deep bed in the green house is now full, our neighbour has altered his garden and had a load of top soil, its now in the greenhouse and also building up one of the deep beds. It was boiling hot yesterday afternoon, we were both glad to get in out of the sun.
I cooked the sirloin roast yesterday, no way can DB complain that he cannot chew it, it melts in the mouth. I have sliced it this morning one for tonights supper, 3 more for suppers and 3 for rolls or sandwiches.
So roast beef, roast spuds and courgette, veggies, raspberries and ice cream for dessert. The raspberries are going mad, I am open freezing them, there is another courgette coming, need to keep my eye on it so it does not turn into a marrow!!7 -
A fly screen door will work at the back door, however the building is B listed - like grade 2 in England - and I can't attach anything to the front, only got the satellite dish because there's barely a Freeview signal here.I've been exploring roller / retractable screen doors but they still need to be installed. In previous years I used a sort of bead curtain and a tension rod at the front but that needed put up and taken down each time, not the best idea anymore. The rain has mostly stayed off. I risked washing and hanging out the bed linen, only had one short misty shower, so it's all dry. I've been to the tip again. There will be a day coming when I don't have anything to dump. The CS here didn't want my stash of cookery books so they're still in the car to go back to the CS in Glasgow. Now back to my rationalising.8
