This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks.I woke up about an hour ago ready to face the day though I am lingering in bed for a wee while more. The main excitement yesterday was accepting an offer on DM's flat. Five sealed bids were received, which was a relief, and, of course, I chose the highest one. And it's a cash buyer so things should be smooth. It's a huge weight of my mind though now I have to move fairly quickly to clear out the remaining possessions. It was a very bittersweet moment and I had a little cry. The good part is that the buyer really really wants the flat, she viewed the flat below in December 2019 but didn't want to be on the ground floor. How lucky for me!
My lovely neighbour came down the hill to bring me a very tasty home made French onion tart (he's a great chef) and also stacked the load of wood he delivered the other week. Now I can get my car back in the barn again. Later on he came back to rescue a swallow which had flown into my kitchen. He was mocking my new cordless lawnmower until he tried it and then had to confess it was good. He has a couple of petrol ones for his acres of grass but I'm not comfortable having fuel in the small barn. I was ridiculously pleased that he liked it. Bonus prize was that he cut the grass and saved me the job. 😀
in the late afternoon a chap from up the glen called round to price up some painting work. I want the utility room, small back hall and kitchen painted and a couple of holes filled in. I've been here since 2013 and the back has never been painted since then. He'll start on Tuesday as I'll be back in Glasgow for a few days. And finally I've ordered a new mattress for here. I've never been happy with this one, it's probably only about six years old but needs to go. JL have a sale on so it's still MSE. 🤣
Now it's time to shift myself a bit more. My thought are with all our poorlies. Happy Saturday to all.15 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting us off. That's good news about the offer, soon life will be your own again to do anything you want.
I got back from our new static last night after a lovely few days away. I really enjoyed the peace, tranquility and lovely views. I can't say the same for Sparkle, I don't think she was as contended as I was. She went on hunger strike for the first couple of days, wouldn't touch her food and looked a bit miserable. I don't think she enjoyed being a Caravan Cat! She's back to her old self now she is home and has taken up residence looking out of the front window in her role as neighbourhood watch cat. After a night and day of torrential rain when I first got there the weather was much kinder and I spent most of every day sitting out reading in the sunshine, alternating it with a bit of tennis watching when I got too warm.
The wm is now chugging away with the towels and t towels I brought back, with a small load of clothes to follow. Sadly it looks a bit damp out there so it will probably have to festoon the back bedroom. I made out a Te*co order last night to replenish my f & v supplies and also stock up the fridge and was surprised to get a delivery slot for tomorrow afternoon. A bit different to a year ago when you couldn't get a slot for neither love nor money!
Ruby I hope it's just a cold you are starting with and not the blooming virus. But they say it's going rampant now with 1 in 160 suffering from it. I hope DD soon feels a bit better too.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies and woeful. Thinking of our MIA too, you are all missed. Take care one and all xx

Morning All
Dull out this morning with rain due later. Don't need to do any washing until later so it can stay inside.
I was up and busy early yesterday, after power washing the huge deck outside I managed to get it oiled, totally underestimated how much oil it would take so had to go and get more. I bought a mop type thing for doing it, saved hours of brushing it in and my knees and back are all the better for it. Had to get my next door neighbour to help me move all the pots, table and storage and will be asking him to move them all back later!
Must do some shopping this morning and visit the allotment to see how many courgettes there are, I seem to be having them everyday with my dinner - good job I like them!
Glad you are getting sorted out at home Gers and the flat is now sold, a big weight off your mind but sad at the same time.
Sounds like you had a good break TA, I'm sure Sparkle will get used to being a caravan cat!
Hope you are all feeling better Ruby.
Right, off to start my day, hope you can enjoy yours. Take care. XX

Morning all damp here with rain forecast we are off to collect my new to me car so i could do without it to be honest i am a bit nervous i am sure it will be fine in MSE style its 18 months old and top of the range with very low mileage DH sorted out all that bit then left me to negotiate I managed to drop it by £1k a tank of fuel and 3 free services so did ok the saving was 10K on a brand new one at basic model so i was happy with the deal .

Morning all.
Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all those in need, good news about the flat Gers.
Raining here so Beano only had a short walk, he hates the rain. Our friends visited yesterday, on!y two weeks until the husband finishes work and then we will go on our travels again. I will be shopping at Tesco to stock up as this is the last place with a supermarket within walking distance and heaven knows when I'll get my car back!
Have a good day everyone..

Morning, hugs if you need one.
Congratulations Gers, so pleased that you have accepted an offer on your Mums flat. For those of you living under English law, Scottiish law regarding selling a house is different, you can put a house on at a fixed price, but the most usual way is to go for offers over and sealed bids. Once an offer has been accepted thats it, no subject to contract and the sale tends to go through very quickly. It is not perfect but better than the English way. We sold a house in Scotland, it went on the market Thursday afternoon 3 viewers on Thursday evening. Friday it was sold and we moved out 2 weeks later.
Yesterday was quite a busy day in the garden, T took out the ceanothus and planted a rose we recovered from next door, he also put 2 in the front in gaps we have if they do not survive I will but new ones. Ever since we moved in 6 years ago, we have been trying to get rid of a large leafed ivy which is actually planted in our neighbours garden. 3 years ago she asked if we could get it out. We did get most of it out, but could not get at the root. Yesterday we had a concerted effort and got the thing out, cut the root back as far as we could and then put root killer on it, we also cut out a piece of old wire fence the workman left in when they replaced the fence. It was very hot and we were glad to sit in the shade with a glass of cold orange juice.
We are having an easy day.............
All day breakfast for supper, will sort out a dessert, the strawberries are almost finished.9 -
Hi everyone,
Gers, great news and unlike in England at least the buyer can't pull out easily.
We are at home on a supposedly one night stopover on our way from Laura's to Yorkshire. Unfortunately just as we were ready to leave Laura's last night (they are going as well) Esben projectile vomited all over the living room floor which is luckily not carpeted. He carried on vomiting until 3 am when we got to bed (daddy is in Scotland and missed the excitement) I then got up at 6.30 with him, he was full of beans, me not so much. He's now asleep again so goodness knows if or when we'll make it to Yorkshire. My stomach doesn't feel the best but I don't know if that is tiredness as much as anything.
Apart from that I had a lovely couple of days with Esben while Laura was at college. He was on top form racing around and singing all the time. I've never known a toddler who sings as much as he does and keeps in tune and in time (sorry doting Grandma here).
I hope all the poorlies are as well as can be expected.13 -
Morning all
I had a terrible night and was still awake at 4.30 this morning, I had the most terrible tummy upset and kept having to rush to the looOH and I both tested negative yesterday but we still feel just not quite right, we will continue to do tests over the next few days.
Poor dd is still suffering she has no energy at all and yesterday lost her sense of taste and smell, she is still either boiling hot or freezing and everything aches and a terrible cough, her friend who also has it is on an oxygen tank at his flat, its a terrible virus. DD is eating a bit and I am taking her cold drinks regularly so she is getting some goodness in her.
Gers I am so glad you have sold the flat, it must be a sad time for you as well but I hope all goes smoothly xxx
Bella enjoy your new car xxx
Have good days all and stay safe xxx12 -
Hello all.Yesterday we had an 8am appointment so we were home early and I managed to do 2 loads of washing, got it dried and put away. Mr Fix It wasn't very well and almost had a nervous breakdown because he'd messed up the online banking 😮 That's not him as normally he's he calm analytical one, cue moi to the rescue and that's a first as I'm usually the headless chicken 😂 He went to bed at 8pm last night and he seems a bit better this morning. I think they'd irradiated his head yesterday by mistake 🤪 Only 2 more appointments next week, Yay !! Then I have to start sorting out the house and doing the garden, the lawns are ankle high already. We had a call from DD this week and the DGC have both had excellent reports this year, that will cost us again 🤑. We give them some money if they do well, must have got their brains from me 🥴 ! Your purse is forever open when you have DGC 💰 😁Today we're having a quiet day and I'm going to play with my new kettle which is all bells and whistles, well it doesn't actually whistle. All I wanted was a replacement, however the model is now defunct so I must have had it a lot longer that I thought.Gers great newsRedRuby hugs to you and yours.Snoozer poor Esben, hope you don't get it too.Hester hope you get your car back soon and it's left in peace this time.Hope everyone who is going away has a lovely break. Hugs to the poorly ones and their family members. Hello to all the MIA's.Take care allnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11
