Apcoa parking ticket

looking advice, during lockdown I took my 86 year old parent who has dementia for a walk around Titanic quarters as this is somewhere he was familiar with and helped a lot with reminiscing. We parked in which appeared to be a small piece of land between a car park and some cones, my husband continued to days this most days as did a number of other cars, yesterday we arrived back to the car to find a ticket for £100 if payed in 14 days it would be reduced to 60
Firstly I was unaware you could not park her and just yesterday I noticed a small sign that I assumed was information regarding the attached car park . Just a few days ago the police parked next to us got out and had a walk around chatting to people, so I can only assume they were unaware that this was private land also
