This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning folks.Dull and warm here and the weather is the same. 😀
After buzzing here and there yesterday morning I decided not to drive down to Airdrie as my dash cam seemed OK though I'll keep an eye on it. After making that decision I then decided to pack up more of my stuff and get back home for the weekend. Not having a fridge anymore at DM's is a PIA, plus there was another viewing at 4pm. I seem to rattle around the place, it's very odd. Anyway, I got on the road and immediately felt better. That feeling of 'better' didn't last too long as I found myself behind an enormous heavy wide load with police escorts. 😱 it trundled along for about 20 miles and then pulled over so I was back to zooming up the road. Seems that there was a series of these pods going somewhere and there was traffic disruption all day. Before I left Glasgow I did some shopping. A woman stopped me in the car park and began chatting away, I had no idea who she was. 🤣 She knew my name... eventually I worked out that was a friend of a friend of DM's who both came to visit her. They were the ones who were very cheery and made DM laugh a lot. I'm so glad it all came to me and I didn't embarrass myself.Today I am waiting to hear from the estate agent about the flat. I shall be keeping myself busy and distracted before then, I hope. My new cordless lawn mower is due to arrive too so two potentially exciting things to keep me busy.Ruby - I hope your test was negative 🤞🤞
Happy Friday to everyone.10 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting Gers. It's fine and dry here, yesterday was a nice day as well, hot and sunny..Ruby, sorry to hear it sounds like you may have picked up the CV from your daughter, thinking of you both. My Dgs 15 has had it, but it was very mild, didn't feel well for a day and that was it, apart from he's still got the cough. Ds and Dil are both double vacced, and were tested twice last week, with a negative result, so the vacc has worked..Glad you enjoyed your lunch out Rosy, it's great to meet up with friends and family after these months of lockdown.Taff, your DH sounds as bad as mine! There's no hope, now I discreetly throw underwear and socks away that he would claim have plenty of wear in them.Sorry to read that you're thinking of giving up your car Hester, it's awful that you've been forced to consider that. I hope it doesn't come to it.DP1 glad you've got flights booked to see your DD.We tidied the garden yesterday, and moved some plants, I .know you shouldn't move them in the growing season, but they are looking ok this morning, I gave them a good watering, and will water again this morning.i've got a dental appointment at 12 o' clock, but it's just a routine check up so won't be there long. Tonight I'm visiting a friend - we seem to be getting back into our old routine of meeting on Friday evenings, which is lovely.Hope everyone has a good Friday, take care folks.11

Morning all dog has been walked and the forecast is for a wet weekend again .Shopping today I will do the hoovering before i go. Double glazing man came last night so i await the quote on that its a local company that has been highly recommended we are going to have a bifold where the patio door is and just change the windows at the back as the front seem ok I am expecting it to be quite expensive as we have an original stained glass window which is beautiful on the landing and i dont won't to loose it it has secondary glazing at the moment but it can be removed, restored and put into a double glazed unit but will be a specialist job I will pay as it is so lovely and has always been part of my life here.
DP1 not long and you will be off there have been some cracking offers on flights coming through but I am still not convinced to get on a plane
Ruby I hope you are doing ok and have a negative test and that DD is stable x
Gers enjoy your new toy
Hugs to all our poorlies MIA's and anyone with worries x
Right better get on have a great day whatever you are up to stay safeSlava Ukraini10 -
Morning all, brightening up a bit after a dull start. A quiet day in for me after my gallivanting 2 days on the trot. We 4 sat outside yesterday, a cafe just before you get to the moors & it overlooks a lodge which looked very pretty in the sun. We were there all afternoon,I just got back before DH came home from work and hastily concocted a salad for tea. Not sure about tonight but with the shopping being delivered yesterday morning there is plenty of choice. Not much else to say really, DS2 dropped some England shorts he got for DGS - he wanted to wear them for footie training last night but he's so skinny they slipped down & I have to find a solution, wouldn't be as bad if there was a drawstring! That's my task for later.....did you hear me scream just then ?
I saw something crawling down my arm, batted it off thinking it might have been a horsefly ( bit of an invasion round here and their bites can be nasty) but it was a big bumblebee which then landed on the floor. I got it on a piece of paper and put it outside where it flew off happily. I've shut the backdoor now
I hope you all have a nice day, RR hope you are ok and DD is feeling a bit better x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)8 -
Morning, hugs if you need one, Gers fingers crossed that you have good news later today.
Shopping yesterday morning, I got someone elses chicken and they must have got my spuds........we bought a new toaster, the old one was toasting less and less........ so its consigned to the bin.
Gardener came and the base of the greenhouse is now concreted in, so we can start to assemble it. There is quite a bit of cutting back to do and I also want to remove a ceanothus, it was supposed to be ground cover, its like a small hedge, so its coming out.
Strawberries are almost done, so we are on to raspberries now. I am open freezing them and putting them in bags in the freezer, will use them up in trifle and jelly.
Hester, I hope that you do not have to give up the car, it will make life so much more difficult for you without it. I know at some point in the not too distant future I am going to have to make the same decision and its not going to be easy.
Ruby, hope you have not picked up the lurgy from your daughter and she is getting better.
Usual Friday supper........not sure about dessert, we may not have any at all.8 -
Morning! Dull and dry. Well, I went into the garage yesterday and took a look around, thought where shall I start, realised I didn't have a clue what I was doing and walked back out again. So then I spent some useful time removing earth from sods of grass that the OH had dug up and chucking the rest in the green bin along with more bay tree prunings. Today I'm going to riddle more stones from the gravel to finish covering a bit that is uncovered. I don't know why I'm bothering because it's not going to stay like that but then, if I thought that about everything that could be done or needs doing then I wouldn't do anything. More Italian and a spot of computer gaming should take me to time to go to OHs mums house for tea, she's picking us up because of no car. We are also out tomorrow for lunch, look at us go, dirty stopouts as we are. That's the extent of hapenings for the weekend, I want to spend some time making a list of things to do, a deadline to do them and then start doing them. Without a daily plan I would sit and do nothing and it's time I got off my backside.Rosy, I might have..my cousin ahs a hive in the bottom of her shed, which she is reluctantly leaving alone until they fly off for autumn somewhere. And happy sewing...Bella, you and Gers need medals for coping with the clearing out. It's really hard to find good homes for everything otherwise you'd get the crushing guilt of letting the parents down. Ruby, hope you have it mildly if you have it and your daughter recovers quickly...It's quite frightening. Gers, enjoy your new mower. I think I now have a 'Special Re;ationship' with my hoover, [oi!not like that] but I do find myself patting it and telling it well done when it's full of cat hair. Hope the rest of you are doing well, and anyone reading, have a nice unremarkable, unthreatening placid day.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi10

Morning all
Bright and sunny here a nice day in store not that we can go anywheremy test was negative yesterday but I still feel very rough with sore throat and a constant cough so I will do another test this morning, I dont know if I have it coming or its just a cold but there is something happening !
DD is still very poorly it comes in waves, last night she felt a bit better but this morning she feels dreadful again, she is eating a tiny amount but at least she is getting something, she is having plenty of water which is good.
My dog walking friend has gone out to get us some dog food this morning, they have a raw diet so we can only hold a certain amount at a time and we are running low, she will leave it on the doorstep for us and I will transfer her the money.
I have to update my tesco delivery today, its really strange not being able to nip to the shop for milk etc when we need it, we are rationing milk as we dont have a lot till tomorrow.
Have good days all and stay safe xxx10 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all those in need.
Still no car news so Steve is grumpy, nothing new there then.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.11 -
Thanks for the update Ruby - you're probably heading for a cold which is not nice but 'better' than covid. My thougths are with you and your DD.My new lawnmower arrived at 8.30a.m. It's now all put together with only one struggle and the battery is charged. Unfortunately the grass is still too wet to cut without churning up the ground so I'll be patient. Also being patient with the estate agent!Hester - I hope that you don't have to give up the car, could you trade it in for a less 'attractive' one? With your lifestyle the car must be important.I've cleared out some stuff from the small barn and taken it to the tip, along with the huge cardboard box from the lawnmower, I couldn't collapse it as the corners are sort of riveted. The happy chap at the tip took it away for me into the shed.9

We are blessed that we can manage without a car. Only a short walk into town for us - not that there are many shops left after an out of town shopping centre opened.
