Hello, OH has recently left a position as it became intolerable ....So after many years in the position he is searching for a new opportunity.
On some job search sites, he has uploaded his CV, and there is a question asking if he accepts his CV being made available to recruiters. We have a concerns with regards to where the CV will end up ....He wants nothing to do with the previous company - could they see it, can anyone search it? - I would expect not, but just looking to understand if it remains only with agencies who will treat with discretion - or something else?
He's trying various searches, but nothing really resulting atm so looks like he probably does need to extend the search by sharing more widely. IT contracter / perm jobs are what he is looking for.
Thank you!!!

I can understand his knee jerk reaction that he doesn't want his previous employer to see his cv, but if you stop and think about it, what's it matter if they do?mahoney said:Hello, OH has recently left a position as it became intolerable ....So after many years in the position he is searching for a new opportunity.

Check with the individual agencies if you can restrict circulation and/or exclude particular companies - but (as I'm sure you realise), the more constraints you put on who sees his cv, the lower the chances of finding a fit.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -
True, it doesn't really matter guess, and yes, the cv needs to be seen as much as possible.
Thanks0 -
Remember though it will be a standard CV. If he wants to be seen for particular positions each CV will be altered to the vacancy requirements. A blanket standard CV might get overlooked.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....1

I think you shouldn't show much concern about the previous job. He should include his previous job in his CV. Even recruiters can ask for previous experience in the verbal interviews so he should face it.1

I can understand the concern. Maybe try it on a couple of sites making the CV public and see how comfortable it is felt.
Personally I would only trust Reed's temping/immediately available to work over anything.
I know years ago any old body could access Indeed and see CV's if someone choose to make viewable.
I would like to hope given the fishing and harvesting alone for worse things at sea like scams this has been tightened up. I don't chose to make my CV public/viewable just because of this at large when in or out of employment.
I also ran into problems when in the work place applying for a job totally unaware at a company you would never connect / link the two together, sadly it turned out company applying to were personal connections of my then work place..... so you never can tell is the moto I go with. Que a rather unpleasant conversation one Monday morning after a spot of informal reference taking which took the mick a little as I never engaged with tin-pot/non protected industry employer beyond submitting my CV.
Being out of work it should be far easier to get over any embarrassment of the past company. If an Employer wants someone back they will contact them direct not go looking for candidate job seeking profile.
I've only had one over the top recruiter say would be good to have full reference in advance of an interview, I got to interview and gleaned quite quickly why they were always hiring and why no one fit their bill.1 -
Thank you - it's about getting the right balance I guess. It must be more of a challenge when in work and looking as there are more sensitives there I guess. A CV holds a lot of personal info so you want that treating correctly - some will even have personal address etc on there.Deleted User said:I can understand the concern. If you have your contact details on your CV you can be sure that any recruitment agent who is interested for a client vacancy would remove those details before passing on information to their client.mahoney said:

Many recruiters don't care about GDPR and ICO, let alone know what it is. Be very careful.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.1

Employers can ask anything about previous jobs to get their clarification. You can ask professional CV writers and take your CV or resume ready and not to make you in difficulties.0
-
Surely you have to know what they are to decide you dont care about it?richardw said:Many recruiters don't care about GDPR and ICO, let alone know what it is. Be very careful.
Have to say I've received many emails from previous agencies giving their privacy statement and asking for my permission to retain the CV on file. A reasonable proportion of "new agencies" similarly send privacy info and ask for consent to store CV as well as forward to the client.
I say "new" because I've been a short term resource for over a decade in a specialist field and so probably have spoken to almost all the agencies that get these types of rolls at some point wether I remember or not is another matter.0
