I have started Alipurinol tablets but can I drink zero % beers or cider or do they still contain high purine levels .

I can't say for sure, but I would expect that neither would be great. Alcohol is a source of purines, so anything with alcohol in not great. Yeast is also a source of purines so anything that is brewed with a yeast (e.g. Zero % Beers) is also a problem. I've switched to wine and reduced my intake as the best option for me.
Just be thankful you don't have pseudo-gout - there's no cure and no equivalent of Allopurinol!
My advice is to always make sure you have three days worth of Colchicine in the house (and in your suitcase if you go away) in case of an attack.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.3 -
Just seems that I don't have anything I can drink when going out as I don't drink wine so may have to knock it on the head . I am on the colchicine for a month now whilst I start the Allopurinol .
I might try a couple of low purine beers like saprano and ashli which are from Japan . Still have alcohol in them but not the purines.1 -
OH has been on allopurinol for more years that I can remember. He drinks beer and lager. He hasn't had an attack of gout for more years than I can remember.1

Polly when did he start drinking after taking allopurinol ? did he start taking it and carry on drinking from day 1 or did he start taking the allopurinol and not drink for a few weeks.
Just want to know how long I leave having a drink0 -
He was drinking before he was prescribed Allopurinol - he was in his mid 30s when diagnosed - and carried on drinking after he was prescribed.I'm not recommending it.Merely stating facts. You should discuss this with your GP.It's getting into this from MSE rules:
Medical advice
However well-intentioned, avoid seeking and/or offering medical advice, as it could result in unwanted consequences for all concerned.2 -
I used to get gout in my 20's when doing serious walking over alps etc and am not a big drinker , After a few attacks I went onto alluprionol and have not modified my alchol intake up or down since. I normally drink wine in preference but also Beer on occasions. I have not had an attack since starting the medication0

Husband got gout in twenties by drinking 13 pints a night, lots of Robinsons barley water during the day and tonnes of tomatoes grown by his dad in cheese and tomato sandwiches. He only had anti-immflatory medication if he had an attack. Went gluten free in 2012 ish not had one since.0
