I've been in and out of hospital for the last 2 weeks, now out and on a cocktail of tablets.

On arrival the first time at hospital I was weighed at 10st 9lb.  I've just weighed myself out of curiosity and am 10st 11lb.  Even with a slight allowance for different scales, I'd expect to have lost 🙈

In hospital I barely ate, in and out of sleeping and at home I've had a coffee in a morning to take meds and toast and an apple on an evening.

I'm bed ridden mostly, with very limited use of right hand side.

I'm not after medical advice, just thoughts. I'd have at least liked a little positive of losing a pound or two during this ordeal 😂

I guess my metabolism is shot and I'm using hardly any energy - this is the most I've even typed 🤣, plus I'm not drinking nearly as much as I used too... But still.. 🤷‍♂️

Edit - just to add its more a grumble than anything, I'm not dieting, haven't for years,, just thought I might have lost a pound or two in this horrendous time..... 🤷‍♂️

Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Could it be the medication?  Different scales?  Weighing at different times of the day etc?

Either way, I hope you feel better soon  :)

Change in weight of 2 lb is nothing - that could be simply different scales, time of day, what you are wearing, or even just before or after a meal.

By the sounds of it, your energy intake and energy expenditure were both very low while in hospital (though the body will have consumed energy in healing) - weight only changes if there is an energy surplus or deficit.

Is it possible that you were fed through a drip at any time, so achieving energy input, but did not realise because of all the other medicines you were being given as well?

If you are concerned, then please ask the next time you have a medical appointment - I assume you'll have some follow-up relatively soon.

    Thank you both.

I'm not concerned enough to question it medically, just looking for a positive in my last few weeks 😂, really thought I'd have lost some.

I appreciate it is different scales, etc but still..... A pound or so would have been nice, even though yes I agree normally a pound is nothing really weight wise.

I've a spinal infection, on morphine, napozen, gabapentin and antibiotics so the wee concoction I've got going on might be causing my body to think 'wth' 🙈

I think I really need to drink more too which I will focus on these next couple of days.

    Thank you both 🌈

I guess you've not been moving around very much, so your limited appetite has probably been adequate for your energy needs.

    Hope things improve soon.

Are your ankles or fingers swollen?  Were you on IV fluids?   They can build up over time.

Morphine will constipate you, you need to keep the fluids and fibre snacks going.

Are any of those drugs steroids? They can cause temporary weight gain, same as the others said though. Please don’t try to diet now whilst healing as you need to eat healthily whist healing. Take care.

    Thank you all

I'm not dieting, haven't for years and years, it was more a grumble in my sad state, I thought I'd have at least had a bonus pound drop off😂. I've amended the op to clarify so others don't worry.

No steriods, but yes morphine did cause constipation so another of my wonderful daily concoction is 4 sashets of done horrendous drink 🤮

Get aren't stolen but hands are, I presumed that was down to my alone and I can't use my tight side fully yet.... 😔

I did a work placement at a national sports centre and lost half a stone in water weight in a day but it was back by day after that. 2lbs can come off or go on during a single day as your hydration levels vary.
