Old Style Daily Sunday 04 July 2021

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks.Despite the cloudy skies the air is already warm and pleasant, can't imagine blazing sunshine coming today so I'll settle for it.Yesterday I started to clear out a couple of cupboards and drawers and even filled a bin bag with detritus from the wee garden barn. There was also mouldy bird feed to get rid of, mealworms which had turned to dust and sunflower hearts all a bit rancid. Such a shame but it's all been there over two years.I want to replace some of my kitchen cupboards with drawers. When I pulled out the stuff in them, and I do mean stuffed, I found too many duplicates and triplicates and so much unnecessary things, all just put in the cupboards out of the way. And then it's difficult to reach it all. I phoned Homebase which supplied the original kitchen to see if changes are easy to make. The very helpful chap will try to look out my order (from 2013) and let me know.Last night I lit the stove even though I still had the doors open, the place needs airflow and heat to feel more lived in.Today I'll be putting away the contents of the boxes I brought with me from Glasgow. My house is pint-sized so I'd need a Mary Poppins style bag if I wanted to keep everything and I refuse to use the loft. 😀
I hope that Saturday was good to everyone and wish a happy Sunday to all.11 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Sunny bright start to the day - although forecast is not great for the coming days.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was SM indian - which we all enjoyed. Today we're having roast pork.
We'll check on the oldies this morning.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting us off. The clearing of cupboards is never ending for you is it! I hope your cupboards can be converted to deep drawers as they are so much easier for finding what you are looking for.
We have sun at the moment but sadly it's not going to last long. We didn't get as much rain as expected yesterday but there was enough to freshen the gardens up a bit. Highlight of the day was getting the estimate from the plumber for the new boiler and pipework etc. Eeeek!! But it has to be done so pointless dwelling on it!
Me and Sparkle are off to the caravan tomorrow for a few days - it'll be my first actual stay in the new to us static. I hope Sparkle isn't too unsettled being a caravan cat rather than a house cat. The forecast isn't too clever but I shall pack plenty of books to keep me occupied.
I have an early sm delivery this morning and a text has just informed me I have no items missing so all's good! I'd better get in the shower and dressed quick smart so as not to alarm the poor chap.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, sad or worried. Take care one and all xx

Hi everyone,
After my lazy day yesterday I have written a to do list for the next couple of days. We will be going down to Laura's on Wednesday and then up to Yorkshire for a few days so I need to be organised. Steve is writing a to do list for jobs to b done in Yorkshire as we won't be up again until September - it is booked out all summer. Hopefully we should repay the amount we paid out preparing it for paying guests. We needed extra bedding and towels but also upgraded door locks and smoke alarms, put in fire extinguishers, had all the small electrical appliances checked etc, etc. We kept it in good nick before but went the extra mile to make sure it is as safe as possible. Looking back we have rented plenty of places where the owners haven't been as concerned about safety.
Not a lot else is going on apart from also planning a celebration barbecue at Chris and Crystal's when we come back from Yorkshire to celebrate the end of Steve's treatment. It will be just about 3 years since his diagnosis when we were told that he might not need any treatment for years with the type of cancer he had, then everything escalated rapidly and he needed chemo 6 months later. Hopefully he'll be in remission for a good long time now.
Gers, I periodically go through my kitchen cupboards to get rid of things I don't use but I know I still hang on to things I only use every blue moon.
I hope Steve is a bit better now, Hester.
Have a good day all.
Have a good day everyone.14 -
Morning all
Its a bit dull and overcast here but the sun is trying to break through, more rain due later as well. Washing will have to stay inside today.
The brisket yesterday was so tasty will do it again, there is enough left for a sandwich today as well and the dogs had a taste as they were salavating at the smell !
Today I think we will pack up some sandwiches and get the dogs out for a longer walk than normal it will do us all good as long as we can avoid the rain !
Dinner tonight will be a seafood pasta with a tomato and mozerella starter, my sister was having a dinner party last night but due to the injury to her hand she had to cancel but had already ordered a load of Burrata so she gave us some to us it is very tasty so im looking forward to it. My sister has 12 weeks in a cast and up to two years recoveryand she has some permanent nerve damage and may never get full use of her finger again its a life changing injury bless her
TA enjoy your time away xx
Gers when I had my new kitchen I had almost all drawers put in apart from two cupboards, one is a corner one so had to be a cupboard and one for the big kitchen items which would not fit in a drawer, it makes life so much easier as you can see everyting in the drawer and no getting on your knees to get something from the back, I would reccommend it !
Have good days all xxx12 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. Gers, I know that feeling, I found 7 years diaries for both of us in the wardrobe. DB said we need to keep them...... I don't think so, we both have journals on the internet and in our documents, also backed up on an external hard drive............ they will be disappearing as will a lot of other stuff over the next weeks and months. I am determined that I am not going to spend hours sorting through stuff, I need a little order in my life and get rid of excess furniture. OK rant over.
We had several heavy showers yesterday, but in between bright, hot sun, so T and I set to and put the greenhouse base together once he had skimmed off the grass. I need to get another bag of post crete, the one bag we have is not enough for the 4 pegs. Our next door neighbour lent us an auger to take the holes out for the posts.
I roasted the pork yesterday so will slice it this morning, spuds etc all done ready to cook supper, more of the toffee cake with ice cream for dessert.7 -
Morning all, Lazy Laura here as I've done nothing today as yet.I have a bit of ironing to do and a little sewing job, a small hole. The hole was my own fault as I was cutting off an irritating label from a top and my hand decided to have a tremor resulting in the small hole. It's my favourite top too 😒I shall put some beef in gravy in the slow cooker in a mo and have roasties and veg with it at tea time, there are some LO strawberries and cream/ice cream for pud. My freezers are stuffed and my fridge is full since my shopping arrived yesterday, it's very satisfying but now I don't know what to choose to eat next. There's no pleasing me is there ?Dad is like the energy bunny and visiting A*dis and Morries like they are going out of fashion, but I'm happy that he can do it, it takes the pressure off me for now. If the cases rise again I shall take up the baton and do his shopping online again.I have to get ready for another week of appointments which are all morning ones, so I shall be a zombie by the end of the week as I'm useless in the mornings 🥱 Mr Fix it has already had his oncology appointment for September to see if this treatment has has changed anything. Hopefully it will give him some extra time.Right I must do something, anything, give me a push someone.Snoozer well done on the end of the treatment, hope Steve gets the all clear 🧡 Enjoy your celebration.RedRuby hugs to your DSisTA enjoy the new static and I hope Sparkle is ok with it too.Hugs to all the poorly ones, those struggling with anything and the MIA'sTake care allnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11

Nanny, thankfully we already know that he is cancer free because of all the blood tests, bone marrow biopsy and CT scan he had when he was in hospital a couple of months ago. They will never call it a cure though but hopefully the remission will last for many years.11
