debit cards

can anyone tell me can a company shop etc charge a fee for paying with a debit card?

    I should think anyone that accepts payment for goods or services can stipulate how and which way they charge.

    They could ask for extra for cards or even cash if they wished to.

    It is up to you if you wish to deal with people like that, or tell them to "Go forth and multiply"
    I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    When debit cards were introduced they couldnt and when the credit card charge was allowed they couldnt. It used to be a marketing point to encouarge debit cards. However, some time in the past this appears to be have been abandoned. I have looked for it before but have found nothing.

    Yes they can. They have to pay a small fee to the bank for debit & credit card payments & while not common, some companies do make a small charge to customers to cover this.
    The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

    I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
