Reclaiming tax rebates

Options
Has anyone had a letter from HMRC to say they have a tax rebate paid to Ensign Advisory ltd. This company seems to be charging 32% and £100 charge and and in some  cases charges on top of this.

Anyone who signed an agreement for their tax refund to be paid to Ensign Advisory Ltd could have yes.

But if you haven't agreed to that then HMRC wouldn't (or shouldn't) send them someone's tax refund.

Google suggests they are involved in applications for Marriage Allowance.
  • I received a letter from HRMC stating that they had sent a cheque to Ensign Advisory for a tax refund. I don't recall giving permission for this company to receive tax refund cheques on my behalf. I may have filled in some information on their website to see if I was entitled to a rebate, but that surely doesn't constitute permission to enter a contract with them. I will be contacting HMRC  and Ensign today.

Putting details into a facebook "tax refund checker" often does unfortunately create a contract in the terms and conditions, that you authorise them to search and pursue it. They wouldn't make money if they were employing someone to check (i.e. send a letter) and then tell you about it, so you could ask for a refund directly

Sounds like you have created a contract with them.... they've told hmrc they are your agent.

Get them removed as your agent ASAP
