sounds fine by me - all you are doing is shifting your DF date not ideal, perhaps, but you got to get through this journey intact and sane.  only caution is very easy to overspend on holiday - I remember after the first day at the pool in a holiday having spent £100 on chips and beer and fizzy drinks (not alcoholic).

I have been an expert at the controlled descent into Debt Free, I should have done it in 2020 but took an extra 2 years for similar reasons, you just got to ask yourself when you get to 2024 would you rather have had the holiday and still have the debt or to have neither.  Either option is defensible
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine
  • It’s not ideal really. But at this moment in time, I want to make a memory with our little girl. we could have cleared more debt, but we’ve got a memory booked, and haven’t had to go into more debt to do it.

my plan is to save money for spending money. Hopefully avoid getting into more debt that way.

I’ve not posted in a while so I thought I’d jump on

We had a great holiday. It did have to end sooner due to the storms in March so that was a bit of a pain!

debt free journey is going okay! I’ve cleared 25% of debt since I first posted in the middle of the night last July.

Got a question for you all. How on earth do you do cheap holidays abroad?! I’m a primary school teacher so we’re tied to school holidays. I’ve been looking for July 2023 and it’s coming to nearly £2000 for a week!!!

Not updated in a while and I’m afraid it’s not good news :/ feeling a little bit down with this setback!

we had to use our emergency fund as my partner is self employed and had problems with his work. As well as that we ended up buying some garden furniture on credit. I made the mistake of using money that we hadn’t earnt yet. I expected to earn an extra £800, so bought the furniture thinking I could pay it off when I got the extra. The extra then fell through. So I’m feeling a little bit down with this set back.

Here are my new standings :(

    Capital One :£1736

    MBNA: 5856

    Emergency fund: £0 :(

in the grand scheme of things, we’ve now paid off the extra £800 I put on the card, so I’m nearly back to where I was in April. But I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put myself back so much, and that my emergency fund has totally gone.

Feels like I’ll never get debt free :(

Sadly we all learn lessons along the sometimes rocky road to debt free life, your most recent lesson is never to spend until the promised payment is banked 😉

Before spending anything on non essentials repeat Martin’s mantra -
do I want it or need it. If you really need it, can you get it cheaper?
