Hi @newtocomps88 unfortunately your thread was closed, as you posted it in Competition Time, which is for active competitions. Whereas it should have been posted in the Compers Chat Corner, so people are unable to reply to you.

Welcome back to comping. 
Unfortunately the search function is very unreliable at the moment.
You can search the whole of MSE on the 'Search the forum' box at the top, or go to the section you want to search and use the magnifying glass next to the page numbers.
I cannot answer your question properly, as I just enter all I can, going through the forum page by page and ticking and crossing those I have entered and those I don't want to or can't answer. 
But maybe someone else can see this now and answer it a bit better for you.

I have just recently returned to comping and unsure how to search. I previously did E:30/06, however, it has all changed. I have read the guide for new compers and looked at how to search. When I click sort I only have hot, top, new, closing date (which always shows E:00/00). It says in the guide to change your display options at the bottom of the page, however, I cannot find such a thing. Any help would be grateful.

So if you click on sort by closing date then go to the END page it will show the ones ending today then work backwards HTH

I've got sorting sussed, but not search. It throws up all sorts of random carp, even when I remove all except current / open comps. Hence I'm hardly posting anything,

GB forgive me if you know this already, but MSE are planning to sort the search probs out by the end of this month. Don't blame you at all re cutting down on posting comps. The search stuff makes it soooo much harder. Hopefully, not for much longer.

Thanks I did hear a whisper, but given how far along without previously promised features returning, I shan't hold my breath, just watch and wait.
The main problem with a broken search is that we either end up with more dupes, or folk aren't bothering to post as search is such a PITA. I'd got my heard around no comps showing for 24 hours, but I struggle with how things are now.
I still check it fairly regularly as the quacky site I'm using doesn't always provide answers, so I come here to see if the work's been done. Search usually shows up some interesting and irrelevant results, but if I don't get the answer, do I do my own research and post the comp at the risk of duping- such a dilemma! xx

You said it well GB. I am sure that MSE have heard us, so am very hopeful that the end is nigh for the search issues at least.

And hope you keep checking back, as you say. Wanna lure you back from the quacky one
