Insurance policy; 'Main' driver.
If a person has recently acquired a car is it possible for the new owner to be the policyholder/registered keeper/owner of said car but at the same time nominate another person as the ‘MAIN’ driver of the car if the ‘MAIN’ driver lives at a different address to the policyholder?
It seems to be that the ‘main’ driver doesn’t necessarily need to be the policyholder, but if they are two different people, then the policyholder and the ‘main’ driver must reside at the same address.
How does one retain total legal responsibility for a car i.e. insurance/ownership etc but at the same allow a 3rd party to be the main driver?
This isn’t any sort of veiled question about ‘fronting’ or anything underhand , by the way.

Wouldn't this be covered by 'where is the vehicle kept'?
You declare where it's parked 'most'1 -
Most of the comparison sites ask 'who is the main driver' and you can select a named driver. They also ask where the car is being kept during day and overnight and you can select home/work/or other address.

It may affect the premium but the answer to your questions are yes- as long as you are upfront then there should not be an issue.

DVLA correspondence will go to the registered keeper - including notification of speeding etc.
V11 tax reminder will be sent to the registered keeper
Responsibility for Tax and insurance rests with the Registered Keeper
Note that there is nothing to stop the other party from insuring the car themselves.
hope this helps

Person 1 as RK, name and address on V5C.
Person 2 as main driver on insurance, car kept overnight at their address.
It would make more sense for person 2 to be the policyholder.1
