UPS and Debt Recovery Agency

Hi all,
Apologies if this is the wrong forum. I'm not sure if this post is a request for help, a rant, or a warning to others!
I placed an order from a Swedish company back in December. I had an email from UPS saying the package wouldn't be delivered unless I paid double what the package cost in Import/Export duty. I obviously didn't want to do that, so emailed the original company asking them to cancel my order which they did do, including refunding me. All's good.
Fast forward 3 and a half months, and the original package lands through my letter box, no knock from UPS asking for payment, no further email from UPS asking for payment. Odd.
Fast forward another 3 months and I get a letter from controlaccount plc demanding payment of the UPS fee.
I'm very conscious regarding my finances and keeping my credit score healthy, but I do feel slighted by this approach. I assume I'm going to have to pay the fee, but it seems very underhand from UPS. Had the delivery driver knocked and asked for payment, I would have rejected the package at the door. I should note there has been no correspondence from UPS besides the initial request for payment which is when I cancelled the order.
I feel I'm not really in a position to argue as I got the package in the end, but it will now end up costing me three times as much!

I wouldn`t panic, the full extent of the debt collectors attention span will consist of a couple of letters if that, then it will be forgotten about, it won`t appear on your credit file as its not a credit debt is it.
Ebay fee`s are commonly chased in the same way, a letter or two is about the limit of their interest, then they move on.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
