O/S Daily Tuesday 29 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast start to the day, rain forecast for this afternoon.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was scampi, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had fish and veg. Tonight will be the LO's from the roast
Yesterday work was as busy as expected and will continue to be so - still not a happy ship but I'm just getting on with it - looking forward to being off for leave after this week and that when I go back we're closer to the deadline date that things are more settled. I find it disappointing, (as do several of my colleagues) that some staff are behaving the way they are, I get that people don't like what they've got I'm not completely happy with what I've got but based on what the situation is I've decided that I'll work with what I've been given. It was a massive change for everyone and there's some that just are making it really unpleasant for others, some seem to thrive on bringing the mood down for others.
Sorry rant over.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday started with the now usual trip to the big CS with yet more stuff and then I headed to the tip. That was closed as there had been a fire the day before, I knew that so had checked the council's website first and found nothing mentioned. Anyway, I took the load across the river to the next big tip.Early afternoon was filled with a flurry of phone calls and emails from / to the estate agent as there were still problems with the info sent to me. Eventually all was sorted and the flat is now live on the market 😀 but I don't want any viewings until after tomorrow. Today is the big push to get the rest of the books out plus all the kitchen equipment to the charity. Alan will be in charge of that whilst the chap who was lent to me last week is back to do the books. After that there still is loads of stuff to go but that's not so urgent and won't affect viewing. Some cupboards still have things in but not much. It's now mostly the china and glasses in the hall display cases and the everyday plates / mugs in the kitchen. And the large number of paintings! Mum was a prolific painter who framed and kept almost all of them, mostly in the cupboards although every wall is covered with them too.I gave DM's iPhone to her crossword friend as he was using a very old small Nokia still. He had had instructions to get a new SIM card which took him ages to do but got there in the end. Setting him up on the phone took ages and then showing him how to use the basics of it was 'interesting'. He's 75 years old so it's admirable that he's doing the leap. For now I'm off to browse a bit and gird my loins for the jobs ahead. My thoughts are with our poorlies and missing. Happy Tuesday to all.12

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another rubbish night for me so consequently I feel like a washed out dishrag this morning.
At last I was woken up to sunshine and blue sky! I know we have had very little rain in recent weeks but nor have we had much sunshine. Just cloud cover day after day.
The pots at the back were all fed and watered yesterday and the newly sprouted weeds at the front got pulled. Just the usual jobs indoors to potter on with this morning and maybe (if the sun stays with us) a spot of sitting out reading this afternoon.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. GERS I felt worn out reading your post. Thinking of all our poorlies and absent friends. Take care all x

Morning, hugs if you need one.
I do not know whats happened since we got back from our break, the last few nights I have woken anytime between 1a, and 3 am and not been able to get back to sleep. Consequently I feel like something the cat brought in and forgot.
A call to the Drs for DB this morning, the Dr wanted to speak to him this week re his leg, it is red round the wound, but has not started to track, I think he needs antib's. He has to take his monitor back later this morning.
It was fine when I woke, but is now raining, it rained most of yesterday too, so now the ground is very soggy.
The green house arrived safe and sound, its on the grass at the top of the garden, the crate with the glass in is leant against the shed. It will be the weekend before we are able to do anything with it apart from lay the base bits out.
The strawberries continue to come another bowls full yesterday, will take some over to my neighbour later, she loves strawberries.
Casseroled beef for supper tonight. I need to start it off slow cooking in the Ninja. I bought a 'job lot' of meat a few weeks ago, so need to start and use it up, we have already sampled the excellent sausages!!

Morning all
Raining again really fed up with it now another wet dog walk in store this morning ! I have a wash on the go but will have to use the TD to dry it but hey ho the plants love it !
Took mum to do her will yesterday and mum had written down exactly what she wanted to go to who etc, I sat in with her for a while to help her ask and understand some questions and then was asked to leave which I was expecting, so I sat in the waiting room and the solicitor left the door open and I could hear everything that was said anywaymum knew exactly what she wanted but the solicitor persuaded her to change her mind
I was fuming but was not allowed to re-enter. Mum came out and said she really did not know or understand what she had agreed to ! Mum is going to phone her back today to ask her to do it the way she wanted, but it was not very professional to say the least ! We have since found out that all four nephews are taking drugs which is where the problems lay.
I then picked up my nephew at two ish, he was still in bedand did not have any money on him, his mum scrabbled round and we got the money together to have his haircut, they live in absolute chaos and the house was filthy, those poor lads dont stand a chance ! Anyway we took him to a Turkish barber who cut his hair and trimmed his beard right back then they wax the nose and use a cut throat razor to tidy evrything up and then use a small flame thing
to burn the ear hair, it was all finished off with hot towels and scented oil to the face, it was fascinating to watch and my goodness did he look better afterwards, I have said that I will take him back in about three months, and all the other nephews want to go too !
Onto today I shall walk the dogs this morning and then I have an electrolis appointment this afternoon, the tablets I am on have made a lot of hair come out on my face, chin mostly so I have been having treatment to get rid of them, this is the forth lot and the hairs are much thinner and less of them so it seems to be doing the trick.
Jacket spuds for dinner with ham and cheese and there is some chicken to finish off. DW needs emptying and a quick tidy through.
Gers keep going my friend you are nearly there xx
Bella enjoy your new house xx
Have good days all xx11 -
Redruby, that's shocking, it's not the solicitor's business to try to change someone's mind. If they felt that there might be a problem in the future they should write notes as to your mum's reasons for doing what she has decided. We have notes with our wills in the very unlikely event that one of the scenarios comes to pass.
Gers, good luck with the house sale, it sounds as if what's left can wait to be cleared until after a sale. The people who bought mum's house volunteered to get rid of the furniture left there so we didn't have to bother. Mind you, it needed complete renovation so they wouldn't have been moving in straight away.
Life has been very quiet the last few days. Steve is golfing this morning and this afternoon I'll be doing a SM run. We will be going to see Laura and Brian tomorrow again and we have fallen into a pattern where she sends me a list and I shop for them. It makes life much easier for Laura while she is using all her spare time to study. She is also trying to lose the baby weight (as she says, just in time to put it on again if they have another) so she is meal planning and sticking to healthy eating.
From the sound of it Chris had a good birthday, how can my baby be 35! They postponed the 3 peaks walk till today because the forecast was better so I'm pleased you're reporting sunshine TA.10 -
Bright here so hopefully the washing will dry outside. I just use my large frame now rather than pegging onto the whirly thing - much easier.
Plan an easy day - tired after going out twice yesterday and I dreamt more than usual last night.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Just popping in to say hello, been AWOL for a while. Scan results show Grade 3 inflammation to both wrist joints - treatment RICE, anti-inflammatories etc. Have been prescribed a 4 week course of oral steroids which I will commence when I return from my holiday next Thursday. Trying not to type at all, but will be reading along with you all.
Hugs and spoons, take care all.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)9 -
Hi everyone
Just been having a catch up while I made my tea....very nice sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice. I made enough for tomorrows tea too so that will be easy!
Cloudy most of today but quite warm...lovely newly washed bedding on my bed tonight.
Gers - you must have stocked the charity shops up now!
I went into town for a few things this morning - it was busy with tourists. Had a look in the charity shops and bought a nice top, but when I got home they'd put the wrong size on the ticket, so it was smaller than it said. Good job I'd kept the receipt.
Dishes to wash and then I might sit outside for a bit and ring eldest DD in Germany
