New employment without photo ID

Hi, I really need some advice, I'm going for an interview today, for a second job, but I'm going to need photo ID which I haven't got, my provisional license expired last year, due to my hours being cut to part time, (covid) I'm now up to my eyes in it, i can't even afford one, even if I could, I can't get past the enter passport number as I don't have a passport, I've got a driving licence form from the post office (for when I can afford)  but I can't see the 10 year renewal box to tick, plus, do I have to send a new photo? As even tho 10 years have passed I look exactly the same, and I'm also worried about that, as I've no one to sign the photo to verify it's me, why can't my driving licence number be enough? Sorry this has turned into a dear Deirdre post but I'm so frustrated and stressed I feel like crying, I'm trying so hard to get out of the mess I'm in, but I feel like I'm up against a brick wall, I've already lost a job because I couldn't give photo ID,

It's a never ending cycle of stress.

I appreciate any advice

Thank you

What an employer accepts in the way of ID is entirely up to them.

They have an obligation to reasonably satisfy themselves that a prospective employee is entitled to work in the UK but how they do that is not actually laid down. Some go over the top, which they are quite entitled to do, but others particularly small business may be more flexible. All you can do is explain the situation and see what they say.

Yes, for a passport application you will have to send a new photo. This can be done electronically online and with care, if you carefully follow the instructions regarding background and framing, you can successfully take your own picture with a phone saving at least that cost.

Looks like a P45 and UK birth certificate would do it:

Only if the employer chooses to accept it. They are entirely free to insist on more and to reject anybody who can't provide what they want.

In any case your link relates to taxi operators in Northern Ireland which may have different rules to the rest of the UK (as may Scotland etc).

I've currently got a P60 as my P45 is with my current employment, as I'm not leaving, this interview is for an additional job, I have my birth certificate, a DBS, national insurance card, and my tax account letter, but this wasn't enough for the last job I was offered, so I couldn't start with them. They just seem to have an issue if you don't have photo ID.
  • Your expired photocard should be sufficient in conjunction with your birth certificate. It's just to marry up your face against the name on the paper documents.

Hopefully, I do look exactly the same even tho the photo is 10 years old, it only expired last year. As soon as I can afford, I'll renew

Indeed. Many employers may be more flexible and hopefully you will find one that is.

Congrats on the job, would you need your driving licence for anything else ?
a Citizencard might be an option, its cheaper at £15.
