O/S Daily Friday 25 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast start to the day, damp underfoot after the heavy rain from last night. More rain is forecast for today.
DH getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and am enjoying first cuppa of the day and my porridge. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was spatchcock piri piri chicken, pasta in a creamy tomato sauce and savory rice. Tonight will be something quick and easy with chips.
I have the usual "to do" list - so I'll crack on with that.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc. I cross posted.Bella - happy moving day. I hope it all goes smoothly for you.Camelot - happy first day of your holidays. My fingers are crossed for a COVID free time. 😷Marie - happy belated birthday greetings. I hope that you had a lovely time. 🎉Dumpling - such great news in your post. 🤗
Poppy - sorry to hear about your SIL, perhaps the care package is in place now.Taff - your posts spin me round! 😀Yesterday was good. The Home Report chap arrived on time and did his thing for about an hour or so whilst I sat in one room until asked to move to another. After he left I took the first three huge padded envelopes to the post office and got them off to Berlin. The schedule from the estate agent popped into my inbox too. Bar a couple of tweaks to it the flat should be on the market on Monday or Tuesday, it's so exciting but sad at the same time. In light of this I've decided to stay here this weekend to finish off taking things to the CS etc. There's loads of stuff to do I know I'd fret about it if not here. Once it's done I can relax properly. The last of the books are being packed up on Tuesday so that's my deadline. This morning the fridge freezer and big Stressless chair are being taken by friends, if it'll fit into the cars. Once that's done it's CS time and more wrapping up to do. I've also got another three big padded envelopes of family papers to go off to Berlin. Now my thoughts turn to our missing and poorlies. Happy Friday to all.11 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Hallelujah we have at last had a miniscule amount of rain overnight. Not enough, as yet, to do any good but I live in hope there might be a bit more. The bird bath is a good indication of how much or, in this case, how little rain has fallen. It's most unusual for us Ooop North to escape rain for this long!
I have the usual excitement of the Friday Tidy today. then maybe I shall dash away with the smoothing iron and empty the basket. There's not much in there as I do as little as possible these days, just a few t shirts and pillow cases.
GERS you continue to amaze me with all you are achieving. Your DM accumulated so much stuff it's been a hard slog for you. DUMPLING slow down in the ready meal department, don't put yourself back at square one again. MARIE I hope you managed to have a lovely birthday yesterday, you are often in my thoughts.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, poorly loved ones, worried or woeful. Take care one and all x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"10 -
Morning All
Damp out this morning, typical for the first day of the holidays! I have my school coat and hoodies in the wash, there is a breeze so I'll put them out and hope for the best.
Yesterday was fairly stress free until I had to do friend's shopping, was so worried about getting the wrong things but thankfully after a couple of phone calls managed to get everything on their list. No doubt I'll be going again in a couple of days, they are a family of 4 adults so go through vast amounts of food!
You've achieved so much Gers, I'm in awe.
Hope you have a smooth move bella.
Great news dumpling and well done on all that cooking.
Belated birthday greetings to you Marie.
Off to the big blue and yellow shed with DD this morning, I had promised DGS he could have a big bed the next time he came here but hadn't really got round to it! He presently has a toddler bed here but he's getting a bit big for it. Hopefully DD will be able to help me put it together. I'll see if I can sell or give away the little bed as although it's handy for the little one I don't have anywhere to put it.
Hope you all have a happy Friday, take care. XX

Thanks for all the support and encouragment since my beloved DM died, just over a month ago. I know that I could have taken my time in clearing out her possessions and getting the flat on the market, it seemed sensible. However, for me it would have been far more painful than it already is to string it out. Coming back week after week or month after month would just have been awful. It's much more healthy for me to have done it this way despite the daily heartbreak of disposing of all her treasures.💕🌹💖13

Morning everyone
Its raining, windy and 11 degrees her this morning! Yesterday was such a nice day that we spent most of the day outside in the nursery garden.
Camelot - I bet you're glad to be on holiday now - we have 3 more weeks to go and are in winding-down mood already. We'll be relieved just to make it till the end of term without having to close because of Covid - there's been a few new misses, but fingers crossed we'll make it!
Well it's a quick one as I need to get sorted for work. Hope everyone has a good day9 -
Morning all,Wet today, had to dry the dog down after our walk - not had to do that for ages! My hairdresser is coming in a bit, my fringe is taking over!Gers I suppose we all do things differently after the loss of a loved one, and you've found the right way for you ; after all you've spent so long away from your own home to look after your DM. My 2 younger brothers and I cleared our parents house in a week as they took time off work, and we all got stuck in, it worked for us. I hope you can soon enjoy some R & R, you certainly deserve it.DB2 called yesterday, he didn't stop for long but it was nice to see him. I just managed to get all the shopping put away before he got here, & my Operation Tidy is going quite well too!Stir fry for tea tonight, after school pick up for DGS. At least I might get away without a visit to the park near his school if it's still raining.I don't mind going but quite a few of his pals go too ,so it's hard to drag him away.Runs a bit of energy off him though!Take care all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning, hugs if you need one. Gers you continue to amaze with the dedication you have sorting out your Mums flat. I agree that getting it all done in one fell swoop is the best way, Once its done, its done and you can reflect on your Mums life in your own time.
We had rain overnight which means I do not have to water today. Collected a small shop from Aldi yesterday, they do not have a base limit for an order. We called at the garden centre to check out their new cafe on the way home, very nice coffee at a reasonable cost. We will go again. Spent the rest of the day chilling.
No plans for today, its damp so DB will possibly go to the shed, I want to get on with the quilt for little miss.
Supper will be our usual fish and chips, we are still eating strawberries. picked another big bowl last night.8 -
Morning all
The rain is backand set in for the next week, I really hope its not one of those summers where we have nothing but rain ! Will take the dogs to the park and no doubt get wet again but they love going out rain or shine.
I took my mum to the eye clinic yesterday and while she was in there I went round to Lidl and did a quick weeks shop, I do like lidl as they do more branded stuff than Aldi such as walkers crisps and ketchup etc and it means I dont have to go to another shop to get extra bits. I picked mum up and we drove round to a fish stall on the seafront and she bought some fresh haddock and a dressed crab, we then went to a local artisan type shop and got her some lovely fresh bread and a few other bits, she said she was going to have fresh crab with bread and butter and salad for her dinner and was really looking forward to it bless her.
I need to empty the dw and tidy round and will then get the dogs out this afternoon Im hoping to have a rest for an hour, going out like yesterday seems to wipe me out ! The dogs will want another walk later but dd will probably take them.
We have southern chicken for dinner with a few chips and I will make some coleslaw, dd is out with a friend tonight so they will eat out.
Gers you are doing so well with all your clearing out it must be such a hard job xxxx
Have good days all xxx11 -
