End of temp agency contract

Coming up to the end of a 6 week temp agency contract. For anyone with any experience in this, what usually happens when it finishes? Do they usually wait until the last day to tell if they're extending your contract or not? Do they usually say a few days before? Will I need to ask them? Do they wait until after your last shift and send out a text? Thanks.

I can't say what "they" normally do but I would first ask the client company whether they would like me to stay on - and I wouldn't ask until I was at the beginning of week 6 of a 6-week booking.
If they said they would like me to stay in the same role or a different one, I would contact the agency to see whether they were aware.
If the client didn't want to extend the booking, I'd then contact the agency myself to ask, as I would be available the following week, whether there was a new assignment to discuss.0 -
I've worked for temping agencies in the past and they would contact me to let me know that either the people I was working for needed me for longer or that the assignment would be ending and they had another job for me. I used to really enjoy temping because jobs were plentiful and there weren't so many hoops to jump through but I think times have changed now.
If I were you I'd contact the agency I worked for and ask them as soon as possible. They must know whether or not your term will be extended or not - and if not, hopefully they will have other assignments. It isn't unreasonable for you to want to know these things. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Make it known if you want to stay on.
Just spent the last 24 hours wondering if I am going to get additional colleague join anytime soon with a new desk arriving - asked in two different ways, eventually got the answer. It's better to ask then be in the dark.

I normally contact the agency and ask them what else is lined up, unless the company I'm temping at ask me directly if I can stay on.
If you've not been approached, take it there's no more work. Which I thought you'd be pleased about based on your other thread.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
I've asked and it appears I'm staying.
