Employee rights after accident at work

Options
Hi
I unfortunately fell down a hole in the ground and injured my knee. Long story short is I need a knee surgery for partial knee replacement and restructure.
The waiting time for this will be according to the surgeon can be up to a year under the current circumstances.
I am currently now working from home full time as I can’t drive or walk. I requested to continue working. I am conducting  roles part of which was part of my role spread out between the team but I have taken on the full aspect.
I have had a discussion with my line manger who has said he will try and keep my roll as he doesn’t want to see me go.
Reading between the lines I’m sure that my employer would want me back doing the roll I am contracted to do.
My question is
can I be dismissed ?
can my employer put me on sick .( I have 6 months full pay and 2 months half pay)
Can they dismiss me before going on sick leave .

A lot may depend on the exact circumstances of the accident

If the company were in any way negligent, then they would be foolish to dismiss you

Did you fill in an accident report at the time or within 24 hours ?

Was it reported under RIDDOR ?

Yes it happened whilst I was at work and yes it was reported immediately and I believe it was reported under RIDDOR .
however I wasn’t on the companies property I work for. I was another companies property whilst conducting work for my employer

If you can't drive but your employer insists that you come in to the office then they should help you apply for Access to Work (through DWP I think).  This would pay for taxis for you to and from work.  Your employer should also ensure you have a way to get around at work (zimmer? wheelchair??).  Their alternative is to assist you getting an op done sooner which would be cheaper for them than you suing should they much about and try to manage you out of a job.

fyi - my knee op (not work accident related) was an expensive one done thru a work benefit private medical scheme.  Total cost was about £15k and was done in under 3 months from diagnosis.  The NHS hadn't even offered me a first appointment by the time I was in post op therapy.   And fyi - ensure your vitamin D levels are good and do all of your exercises!!

    Thanks
my roll as per contract is impossible to carry out at the moment so my only option is working from home.
Yes I’ve been quoted £14500 and this can be done within 8 weeks.
I’m worried sick about this and sleepless nights doesn’t help.
Vitamin D good shout I’ll try that . Exercise is limited though .

I'm sure you realise this but even if the op does get done in 8 weeks, full recovery will probably take months. My son had a similar op in November and it was several months before he was able to drive. This was after extensive physio.
Definitely seek clarification regarding your companies approach to this situation by contacting manager/HR department via emails.

May well be a claim on the public liability insurance of the owners of the site you were on. No doubt there's an ongoing internal health and safety investigation.
