is cheap own brand disinfectant as effective as branded disinfectant?

Is Tesco's cheap disinfectant at 85p as effective as Dettol at £3.50 as I bought Tesco disinfectant and my partner wasn't happy?

Yes, it's all the same. 785p sounds expensive to me for such a thing.

The costly ones may smell better, but as long as you know the concentration of whatever you are buying it's all the same.

No, it's not all the same. Compare not just the ingredients, but also the proportions of them. Can you tell whether a cheap disinfectant has a higher proportion of water. It's like buying organic chicken and conventional chicken. The convention chicken can contain added water, maybe as much as 12% plus additives and glucose syrup. It can be fed on GM feed amd intensively reared without seeing a blade of grass.  It's way cheaper but it isn't better.

When doing a comparison. for anything, it has to be like for like. Not just ingredients but proportions. If you want good cleaning stuff for a cheap price, buy in bulk from a hospital/care home/hotel supplier.

Slightly off the point but you might like to look at Zoflora (or cheaper copy) as you dilute it yourself. Comes in a very small or smallish bottle & has very many uses: different dilutions for different jobs. Flower/ ocean scents too
