I have just received a letter from a debt recovery agency about a catalogue (Fashionworld but changed now to JDWilliams) debt from 10 years ago.I have not had any contact about this debt in all that time.It is for £1500....Would this debt not be statute barred and what would my next steps be.I am in Northern Ireland..Thanx in advance for any help.

Not SC but possibly. It is up to you to tell them it is SB to stop the collection process. However they probably know and will not and it would be a valid defence. Easier to tell them though. (depending on the company and what they might make up).

For the price of a stamp, you can save yourself -
(A) Some money
(B) A lot of hassle
(C) Any chance of court action
(D) Piece of mind that its sorted.

It's still 6 years but different legislation.
The Limitation (Northern Ireland) Order 1989
The stepchange letter works for all jurisdictions (not Scotland)
