Tax rebate question

Hello,

I started a new job last year, with my first wage received in December 2020. Since then, I have been underpaid three months (non consecutive) as a result of incorrect tax codes. Finally, this month my tax code seems to be correct and I am being paid the correct amount, however I have not received the full rebate for the amount I was previously underpaid. Do you know if this is an automatic process or if I need to contact HMRC to arrange a rebate for the outstanding amount? Any advice would be appreciated!

Impossible to tell exactly what is happening without details of tax codes and pay/tax figures involved but in general terms if you ended last tax year (any pay day that fell on or before 5/4/21) having paid more tax than you should have it will eventually be refunded by HMRC.  Any tax overpaid this tax year will come back as an adjustment in your wages.
