So this year we should have been mortgage free after paying our mortgage for 25 years. However like many others life threw a few curve balls along the way :- bad mortgage advice when we were young (endowment mortgage, which wouldn't pay off mortgage) and having to remortgage due to debt after hubby lost his job and I had some health problems. For the last few years we have been overpaying our mortgage as our circumstances have improved. Coming forward to the present time, we have just sold our house and had an offer accepted on a new house that will be paid for, by the equity we have after paying off our mortgage. So as long as everything goes to plan, in a few months we should be mortgage free. We are moving to an area in which property is cheaper but closer to my work, from a commuter town as children are grown and our home doesn't need to be the centre of the universe for all their activities. After many years of struggling it finally feels that we are reaching the light at the end of the tunnel. Keeping everything crossed for now !!
