Morrisons bringing back glass milk bottles in Kent and Sheffield

Some years ago I started getting milk delivered in glass bottles. Doing this, I realised I no longer needed to go to the supermarket weekly - I could go fortnightly instead. The main reason for going weekly was to buy the milk (we had a veg box as well so always had fresh veg without the supermarket.)I had a separate credit card for groceries and household stuff. And what I noticed is that whilst the milk was more expensive, I was saving a substantial amount of money at the supermarket. The milk was £12 a month but my supermarket bills went down by £60 a month. For us, spending more on the milk and getting it delivered, saved a good amount of money. We still have milk delivered. 68p a pint.4

We go through, on average, 12 pints of milk a week, and pay £1.50 for a 6 pint container. So that's just 25p per pint. If I were to switch to Morrisons in glass bottles at 90p per pint, my weekly milk spend would go from £3.00 to £10.80 - more than three and a half times as much money. I simply can't afford it, and that's all there is to it.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)1 -
Well that is good. 👍😊
But for us folk on a budget pretty pricey. Get my milk - long life - Uht but still British - from Aldi or Lidl at around 58p a litre. Asda was around 62p but shot up recently.
And still environmentally friendly as although limited places to recycle the cartons do get taken in bulk to a site when I am going that way. Keep um in my shed til then.🚛 ♻1 -
It's a great idea as I'd love to save using more plastic, but 90p a pint is too much!1

Well done for supporting a local business and saving food miles. @CQhristoffM0

Would like to go get milkman delivery but:
. I live in flats where I share communal door with one neighbour. Can see others in the block (not my neighbour) pinching my milk.
. I live alone and my milk use varies week to week. Can use 2-5 pints a week. When I know I need more milk, I get a bottle after work.1 -
I know it doesn't work for everyone but we have milk in glass bottles, delivered by the fabulous Steve & his team, at about 3am each day (only downside is if I'm up that late they scare the **** out of me).
It's not as cheap as the stuff in plastic from the supermarket but I can add or remove a bottle by just leaving a note out the night before. It's definitely cheaper than in glass from the supermarket - that seems mad!1 -
I always had milk delivered in glass bottles when I lived in London; when I moved to Wales I couldn’t find anyone who did this. During one of the lockdowns a Dairy Fairy left me a (free!) bottle of milk with details of the deliveries they now do to my village.
Yes, it is more expensive than supermarket cartons (70p/pint) but it is fresher and I don’t have to tussle with heavy cartons. I already have a monthly supermarket delivery of non perishable grocery and household items plus other regular deliveries of things such as cat food and litter so that the only food items I go out to buy are perishables.

I have used glass bottled milk from my milk man for the last 50 years and have had many years of being 'hard up' not rich, just like to help support my local farmers.. freezing milk i do this occasionally too, and, I have a couple of plastic pint bottles which have been boought when I have run short, i just keep just for freezing milk, because no - you cant freeze milk in a glass bottle easy realy and, no inconvienience.. and, it DOES taste so much better than plastic bottle milk bird damage to bottle tops. just put a little cover over the top of it, i pay 60p for a pint of milk from my milk man. not too much to ask give it a try... we all need to be supporting our local businesses now

Paying 90p/pint is't going to save the planet. Ending exponential population growth is the answer.
