Can anyone give me some words of support!!

hi there, i'm new to this! i've been reading advice in the forums for a couple of weeks now!
i am married and have 3 children and due to my out of control need to have nice new things all the time we are now £33,000 in debt. :o

i've had a telephone appointment with the cccs and after going through everything i have £150 a month left over so they have advised we start a dmp! ideally i was looking at doing an iva but 1, we don't have enough money spare each month at the minute and 2, we're both self employed! so the dmp seems our only option at the min!

it does seem to be the answer to our problems at the min but when i sat down after my appointment and did some working out it means we will be paying the debt off for 18 years and 3 months and thats only if they freeze the interest!!

i'd just like to hear from anyone who is or has been in the same position!

    hi and welcome.

Firstly, the first thing is well done for taking the steps you have done.

Secondly, the debt free date you mention is just a starting point - you can probably, in fact almost certainly, bring this forward over time by doing some extra stuff - cutting back, ebaying, mystery shopping, AQAing etc etc etc.

There is a really good DMP Mutual Supporters' thread here - head over and have a look and see how others are doing. Loads are in the same position as you or have been in the past, so you are in good company.

Good luck, and hope to see you stick around,

Hi rhubarb and welcome. There are many of us here who are with CCCS on dmps that will be going on for what seems like forever. There is even a support thread - long haul supporters thread that may be worth reading for support. Whilst you are here, it would be worth putting up your SOA as there will be plenty of bods who will be able to help you save money. 18 years may seem like a lifetime, but i bet you will be able to reduce that somewhat with budgetting, great ideas and a bit of creativity.
  • Hi Rhubarb, Wecome to DFW!

I think the first thing to suggest is a S.O.A, see SS's sticky for help with this, then we can all be of more help.

what helps me is reading others diary's and have just posted mine. Long Haulers need that wee bit extra support.

My initial debt free date is 2053!!!! But I know that thanks to folks on here, it wont be anything like that.

Head over to some of the diaries and also read peoples sigs. It just helps no end to know you are not alone.

Hi Rhubarb, congratulations on having already got yourself booked in with CCCS. You've had great advice in the posts above. Do keep posting here - people really will cheer even for small things like getting your broadband for £5 less a month or something. You will bust the debt and you will bust it sooner than your current DFD. :)
