O/S Daily Friday 11 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy dull start but still very warm.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm now getting in the shower, and will have my brekkie once showered. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night wash pasta in sauce with chicken goujons. Tonight will be something quick and easy possibly pie, chips and beans for the menfolk,
Food shopping to do first thing then some housework, although I did make a start on that yesterday so not so much to do.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks, thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday the lovely cleaner helped me move out more stuff. She dealt with the two under-sink cupboards whilst I dealt with more baking equipment. There was more glass to go out too, we ended up with four bags for recycling so took them to the tip. Back at the flat we packed a couple of bags for her to take. She wanted a couple of vases and the tins of fruit and tuna. Everyone who comes in gets stuff pressed on them.Once I'd taken the cleaner home I packed up some of my own things from the kitchen and drove to my place. On the way up it was very rainy though the sun came out later in the evening which I really enjoyed here. The wood burner needed cleared of ash so I got the ash vacuum out and did that and then lit a fire. 😀
This morning I'm expecting my maybe gardener, I really hope she'll take it on so 🤞 please. Then I'll go back down to Glasgow and carry on there.Monna - I've been thinking about you clearing out stuff too, have you made any headway?
My thoughts to all the poorlies. Happy Friday to all.13 -
Morning all. Dull so far but then I expect the clouds will burn off after and if they don't don't and it rains, well, all the more water for the water butts. I have some lettuce to plant out. This year I decided to stop growing things because I could grow and grow what we actually eat. We have a gooseberry bush that's been here since we moved in and last year I potted some up in syrup. They're still in the cupboard so I'll save this years crop, then dig up the bush. Saw fly have found it again this year and eaten the new growth so.. I've scratched my legs countless times on it because it's right next to the path so I'll be scratchless next year...Today is lemon drizzle cake day and I am all prepared to go. We're also going over there this evening for drinks. Alcohol for OH, coffee for me. We haven't managed to train the cats to use the cat flap yet, they just think it's a handy window to look outside, so a concerted effort will be made this weekend. A tin of tuna will be called into play.snoozer, have a good day buying pretty plants
Gers, enjoy your weekend at home. It's lovely that other people are using the things your mother had. Maybe we should have a central hub in each town where things could go to be re-used. I know me and my sister would be adding a houses worth of stuff to one if they existed. Ruby, have you seen your dog walking pal yet? TA, your weeble woman reminds me of The Little Fatto
dumpling, hope your bog bake was up to standard otherwise TA will be wagging her finger...that just sent me off on the thought, what if we all had a dinner together abd brought our favourite meal? Would Nelskis be liver and bacon? Would mine be lasagne? Would nanny bring cawl? And obviously I should stop there because I'm wandering again...Have a good if you can, bask in the sun or dance in the rain

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. I feel like a washed out rag this morning, it was impossible to sleep it was so warm through the night. I like the warm weather through the day but not so at night. I think there may be a nana nap this afternoon.
It's the usual Friday Tidy on the agenda but it's far too warm for moving stuff and giving a through clean. So just a flick round with a duster and a trundle up and down with the vac where it shows! There are lots of snuffle marks on the front window but they too will get a clean when it's cooler. If anyone hereabouts is looking for a nickname for me it will probably be "That Slovenly Woman at the End with the mucky windows" !!
Well Sparkle's excursion to the vets went as expected. I ended up with several war wounds caused by trying to ram her in her carrier and came home £94 poorer! How do they think up these prices! He was pleased with her chin but not so her eyes. He took her into the nurse to be pinned down whilst he had a thorough look at them to confirm there was nothing sinister going on. There wasn't, it's conjunctivitis, so came home with more anti-biotics but no steroids this time!
I have a T*sco delivery this afternoon I wonder what will be missing or subbed. All was p & c last time but my DF had 6 subs earlier this week! That must be a record! I just hope I am still awake when he comes! The fridge still needs a wipe and tidy in readiness.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, poorly loved ones or stressed and worried. GERS safe journey back to Glasgow and I have my fingers crossed the gardener takes your garden on. Take care all xx

Good morning.
Gers, thanks for your concern. I'm glad that you are having a break at home. Today is Linen Cupboard Day for me. The result of 72 years of hoarding crammed into a huge airing cupboard. Think of me and wince.
taff, have a piece of lemon drizzle for me please. I love it.
TA, if you are Mrs Mucky Windows I am Mrs Doesn't Open Her Bedroom Curtains until Halfway Through The Morning. I tend to do things like catch up on MSE, order things, eat toast, finish yesterday's crossword, change the date at the top of my To-do list, and mentally prepare myself for action. (Ha ha) All from the comfort of my bed.
However, at the moment I am a reformed character while sorting out my old friend's life. Why is it so much easier to sort out somebody else's life than tackle one's own?
Have a good day.I believe that friends are quiet angels

A quick good morning all.
We've been away for a few days, glorious weather, but am now catching up on washing and other things.
Today I have an opticians appointment and then a few bits of shopping to do. DD has just messaged to see if I can give her a lift somewhere this afternoon so will work around that.
Glad to hear that things are improving for folks and hope that continues for us all.

Morning, hugs if you need one. Gers, pleased you are having a bit of a break before travelling back to Glasgow.
DB now just had a dressing on his leg. He will change it every other day when he showers. I have been given enough for a week, but ordered some yesterday. I am glad that he is back doing his little jobs, by the time I had cooked supper last night I was exhausted. The heat did not help, it was after 2am before I got off to sleep, so feeling a bit peely wally. A large mug of coffee should help.
Gardener here today, will get him to go over the herbaceous bed, we also need to see if he can chip away some concrete to allow DB to put edging in at the side of the patio to stop the soil from falling on to it.
Fish and chips tonight, there is a small amount of trifle to finish up.9 -
Morning all, it's a bit damp here- can't say it's rain, more like someone sprayed you with a plant mister
The kitchen needs a good tidy so I'll do that after another coffee ! I have some ironing but it's so muggy! Some admin for me to do for DH too, and we have to pick up DGS later.
I have made an arrangement for next week to meet a friend, last seen circa July 2020! so that'll be nice.Apart from that nothing new so I'll wish you all a good day xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)10 -
Morning all
Dull and overcast here but hopefully the sun will appear later, wm is on with another load to go in after.
Taff I saw my dog walking friend yesterday she was ok the family of the dog she walks had been off work / school so she didn't have to take him, I bet people have some names for us we amble round and round the park talking non stop for a good hour and sometimes scream with laughter
My favourite meal would be scallops for a starter with something and yorkshire pudding for the main, or picky bits cheese, meats and olives etc with some really nice bread.
Yesterday after the park we found a couple of fleas on big dog cue us taking all the soft furnishings out of the lounge and washing absolutly everything the wm did not stop yesterday. We washed all the walls down and the skirting boards ect and pulled all the furniture out and hoovered and moped the floors and sprayed everything with flea spray, we washed and treated the dogs so im hoping we have nipped it in the bud before they got hold.
Will take the pups to the park and tell my friend about the fleas so they can flea treat George as well. And then I am going to give the utility room a really good clean I noticed yesterday that my skirting boards are filthy I bet people are talking about them too
Gers glad you managed to get home xx
Mona well done for helping your friend xx
Have good days all xx10 -
Hello all, another very restless night and up till 3am with Mr Fix It, who felt dizzy and sick again. I feel like I've been hit by a truck this morning, I can't remember when I last had a good night's sleep.Yesterday it mizzled on and off all day and after the covid test ( negative result) we had a drive around the city, it was strange to see the places where I lived for a while as a small child. My old school has been replaced by a new modern one but my grandparents house is still standing and looking much the same, I have such good memories of being there.Today I have lots on my to do list, but not much umph to do them. The only thing I managed to cross off my list yesterday was cleaning the halogen oven. Perhaps I'll have another coffee and I may start something, or not.Sorry taff not cawl, maybe fish and chips or a roast dinner, but always followed with a gooey pud 😘Take care and hugs to anyone in need.nan xx

Just feel wiped out after going to visit a friend yesterday. We had a bus ride there and spent a lovely time chatting with our friend. Then we walked to a supermarket - got a few bits then had a long walk to a bus stop and a long wait for a bus. Shattered when we got home. Dinner was a snack meal.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45
