O/S Daily Thursday 10 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy start to the day but forecast is still good, so it may clear later - still very warm though.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/salad. Not sure what we'll be having tonight but need to think of something - I have quite a bit in so hoping I can think of something without having to buy anything more and its food shopping day tomorrow - I need to plan better!
Yesterday work was quite busy and a bit heavy going first thing but I did get things sorted eventually. Just working half a day today then on time off - can't wait.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc. It's very dull outside, doesn't bode well for the day ahead. Yesterday was very cloudy but also humid, not too wonderful. After our breakfast yesterday Alan and I moved mountains in this flat, well he moved mountains whilst I loitered in the lower slopes. He cleared out the remaining stuff from high places and the shelving in the kitchen alcove. We did a tip run with bags and bags of recycling material and then another one to the CS with the last remaining bags of clothes and shoes. The amount of stuff to be taken away by the clearance / junk firm is growing.By the time Alan left I was whacked, he's a whirlwind, so ordered an early takeaway but only managed a few mouthfuls. I've decided to drive home today after the cleaner has left so that I'm there for the potential gardener tomorrow morning. Then I'll come back here on Friday so I can get stuck back in.I hope that things are OK out there in our OS world. Happy Thursday to all.11

Good morning.
Gers, you are really stretching yourself to the limit, do be as careful as you can, I know how wearing all this clearing up can be. Do you think that Alan would like a trip to the IOW when you have finished with him, there is a flat that I know of in need of his ministrations.
I'm having a rest from flat clearing today and doing shopping instead. Tomorrow is the turn of the airing/linen cupboard to be sorted at my old friend's abode.
When is the next lock down? Please?
I hope everyone has a good day and makes the most of this lovely sunshine.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We are forecast 24 deg today but no sun! It's already feeling very muggy.
GERS I always thought I would be leaving lots of stuff behind for the kids to chuck/find homes for but, after hearing of your mammoth task at DM's, I feel I have nothing to worry about! I did make a start de-cluttering last year but the job soon stopped. I should start again.
Today is the day Sparkle morphs into Psycho Cat. She has a review of the conjunctivitis eye and also the allergy chin. Surprisingly the latter has been kept at bay since her last appointment but her eye still looks a bit pink. I am already dreading the thought of the struggle getting her in her carrier and the appointment isn't till 5.00 pm! Wish me luck!
It'll be the usual Thursday clean of the kitchen and bathroom this morning. It eases the burden for the Friday Tidy. There's some washing to peg out when the wm stops. Should dry ok despite no sun.
I've been thinking back on nicknames and wondering what happened to the people we no longer see. There was Coat Hanger Man who was so straight and upright we were convinced he always left one in whatever he was wearing. Then there was the rotund little Weeble Woman! Despite the selling slogan of "Weebles wobble but they don't fall down" I think she must have done as we no longer see her.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies and poorly loved ones. Take care one and all xx

Morning! Not sunny but good enough weather to spend some time weeding the sides and the lump of stuff at the back, which incidentally was also covered in one particular area with bird poo. On with the gloves, build up of bird poo removed to a bucket for the compost.Well, waste not want not etc. One builders trug filled with weeds, the bloody marestail is going wild so off it went into the green bin and I think I've done my excercise for the day. Bit of Italian, shower, make a shopping list and out I will go later on.The learning thing was fun last night, a kind of intro to how extensions and alterations are designed, and watching that made me realise why the architects we've got designed the house as they did. Why oh why didn't I train as one of those? I know...it's because I was fifteen before I realised there were such things as art colleges, and considering that was my passion a bit unbelievable, so thinking I could have done architecture would have blown my tiny mind. I'd do it if I could now. But then, I also got offered a blacksmiths apprenticeship and blew that one by moving 90 miles away...Sometimes I look back and wonder what on earth I was thinking...roads not travelled etc. No regrets though, what's done is done.I'm loving all the names we have for people, it's a definite thing...My sister and father used to call one of their neighbours The Stupids, next door the Druggies and we have The Party House a few houses down.TA, good luck with pyscho cat today. Gers, you're doing an astonishing amount of work! Snatch a relax somewhere...nanny, good luck with the isolation but then, it's not as if you haven't had practice...Well done for spending on you too. Snoozer, when I did first aid courses I never got anyone dishy, I'm jealous
dumpling, just close your eyes and pretend to nap....Have a good day all if you can

Good morning everyone
It's already shaping up to be a very warm day here so I am going to do my cooking before it gets too hot in the kitchen. Lilly and her partner and Jemima and the grandkids are coming over after school so I am going to make a massive pan of bolognese sauce so I can attempt a bolognese bake a la TA's speciality and have some sauce left over so Steve can have spaghetti with his as he doesn't like pasta! I know I know, I have said till I am blue in the face that pasta and spaghetti are the same thing but he won't have it.
I will get washed and dressed today as well before I start and then this afternoon I will finish making up a knitted bunny. She is super cute as she is dressed in a bathing suit and has a rubber ring around her waist.
Right, breakfast is calling me so I will love you and leave you, take care xx10 -
The only nickname I can think that we gave anyone was Mr Weather (and his wife Mrs Weather). But I like Taff's road not travelled, given my time again I would have tried to become a Doctor, but if I'd done it as a teenager there would have been no Steve, Laura or Chris because I would have gone to a different university and I couldn't bear that thought.
We spent yesterday travelling up and down the A1 trying to find a barbecue for Chris without success. They're having a barbecue on Saturday but will have to make do with their old one (which is actually our old one). Today we are planning to go across to see Crystal and buy some plants to fill up a gap in the flower bed where something has not reappeared.
Gers, enjoy your night at home. Have a good day everyone.9 -
We nicknamed one of our neighbours‘Neighbourhood Watch’ think it’s probably self explanatory and no they weren’t elderly and lonely!10

Morning, hugs if you need one. Gers take care, you need to have a relax time, you have just been through 3 years of ongoing stress.
DB has to have his dressing changed this morning, so a Drs visit at 10.30. He has been good keeping his leg up, I think the amount of blood and how is was shooting out frightened him. I ever bless my nursing training when these things happen, and the fact that I do not panic.
Towels in the washer, its cloudy, the sun keeps peeping though but its much cooler than yesterday thankfully.
Sausage and mash with veggies are on the menu, there is trifle for dessert. I picked the first half dozen strawberries last night, lots more to come!!

Morning all
Very muggy here but overcast I hope the sun comes out to play later on, I will take the dogs out this morning while its a bit cooler, we took them to the beach yesterday evening and we were actually a bit cold with the breeze coming off the sea but they loved it and had a wonderful time running in and out of the sea.
I did a bit more in the garden yesterday I bought some more veg plants and planted them up so now I have Cucumbers, tomatoes, corgette, french beans and some strawberrys they are all planted in big cloth containers a bit like grow bags but no plastic and can be re used. Im hoping I get a fairly good crop from them.
Shopping to collect at lunch time and the house needs a bit of attention and then another dog walk later, I am trying to do the 10k steps per day which is helping with weight loss.
Im still loving all these nick names for people its really making me laugh !
Gers enjoy your time at home but please try to rest and eat xxx
Have good days all xxx11 -
Bit late today, had a surprise visit from DS2 and DGD after they dropped DGS off at school. I've had a hectic week so far minding DGS Mon & Tues. and both came in the afternoon yesterday once he'd finished school so we went to the park (again
) I'm lucky we're so close. The cafe had shut but the ice cream van was parked up near the playground so they wangled one off me once I'd counted the coins in my bag to make sure I had enough
. The driver was really pleased to see us, he's watched the DGC grow up & still recognised them even though last year we hardly saw him due to lockdown. We had a chat, he said it had been really difficult last year.He should be retired really but doesn't like sitting still
, like DH ,so was glad to get the van back on the road.
Just taken delivery of my sm shop all put away now, and I've planned my week of meals. Veg box also dropped off, so just waiting for an Amaz. delivery and also the dog food. The I might ring a friend, or my cousin,it's very dull weather here so apart from a potter I think I'll stay in.Take care all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'.
