I.D when applying for a job

Hi everyone,

I applied for a job with Amazon warehouse earlier this week and confirmed a interview via Amazon Chime today. I was waiting for the interview to start and I had a phone call from the lady who was going to interview me saying there a probelm with one on the documents I uploaded on my profile. I uploaded a copy of my birth certificate and a current P60 form as I don't have a passport.

She said they can't accept a copy of my birth certificate and it must be an orginal. The problem is, my orginal went missing when I was a baby and I have never had an issue using this for other jobs, driving license etc. I called my local registery office and they confirmed this is a legal document. I have emailed the lady who was going to interview me since explaining this and am currently awaiting a response. I have offered to post this to her if she would like to verify it for reference number, watermarks etc.

I just wanted to ask, am I in the wrong with this or can they decline this as I am very keen on the position and would be gratful at the chance on the interview.

Thanks.

They can decline who ever they want. Unfortunately a lot of employers get over zealous when doing the ID checks. If you have not even had the interview yet they may not see the point in spending their time on this. You will just have to wait and see.

Thank you for getting back to me. I hope they do because ai could do with a career change. Sick on sitting behind a desk for 8 hours a day and would rather be on be on my feet. I know there is mixed reviews about working there, but I would honestly prefer it compared to what I'm doing. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope it can work itself out. Thank you again.

Are you sure this is not a question of semantics? Maybe the women thinks that what you have is not an official document but a copy of an official document?

The problem is that in this country anyone can order a 'official' copy of anyone else's birth, marriage or death certificate.
So possession of an official copy of a birth certificate for a named person isn't really very good proof that you are actually the person named on that certificate, unless it's one of the original copies obtained when the parents initially registered the birth.
Official copies all contain the date on when they are issued and it's not uncommon for organisations to say that only one issued within a year of birth is acceptable as proof of identity (in fact, I think a government website used to say this, but I can't find a link at present).
    [Edit] - found it !
for and individuals proof of name it says (my bold) 'Original birth certificate (UK birth certificate issued within 12 months of the date of birth in full form including those issued by UK authorities overseas such as Embassies High Commissions and HM Forces)'.
I've experienced the same problem (my 'original' copy went missing when I first applied for a passport many years ago).
