Amazon Prime Delivery

Hi all,
I am quite new to Amazon and I have a question. If I am part of Amazon Prime and I place an order, is the item supposed to turn up the next day or whenever they have a slot available? I thought if you were part of Prime, all orders got delivered the day after. Sometimes it turns up the day after but the item I have just purchased now is saying it will be here on Saturday.
Sorry if I am being really thick here. I did have a brief look on the website but got a bit lost.
Thanks,

As per spoonie_turtle, it shows clearly on the order page , there is often a bit of slippage if you buy late in the afternoon or evening as even Next Day can mean the day after.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Lots of items are not eligible for Prime delivery.
It is clearly stated.

Has always been next day (after dispatch). Dispatch occuring only after it has been moved to your local distribution centre(could be one opf a few). It's never been the next day you expect. Really depends on what you order and where you are of course. For instance if I order prime next day wiper blades for my car they come from Germany first. Which as I said does not count as days.

I have always understood Amazon Prime to be free delivery.
This does not always mean next day delivery but in the vast majority of cases it is.
During the last year I have used Prime extensively and it will always say "if you order within the next X hours Y mins it will arrive tomorrow". It will give a date so that "next day" or "tomorrow" is not ambiguous.
I have never been let down and live in Devon, so not exactly central!4 -
