Are these knives any good?

Just wondering if these knives are any good? See them in a magazine.

I've a feeling they'd be no good because of the free part. Just looking for someone elses opinion. I'm after some good knives and would consider getting the block at £50.

Thanks in advance.

They are alright - certainly well worth the £10 p&p but nowhere near worth what they say the knives are worth!!!
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

My dad bought them. They are alright for £8 (the P & p charge) but not worth any more, IMHO. Their range is acrried in a Professional Cookshop at our nearest Designer Outlet Village and they are always sold at the 'discount' price you see in the magazines. I think I read somewhere that they have been successfully challended by the ASA because they never/rarely sell anything at the 'RRP'.

I would shop around for a better block set - for £50 you could get something really good quality. Go to a proper kitchen shop and try some for size... good knives need to be good quality but also need to feel right in your hands. Then when you know what you want, shop around on the internet. £50 will go a long way, esp with the sales coming up...;)

  • Agree with Techno and Annie - They're really OK, but not worth that much. I heard to they were in trouble with someone.

I bought a pan set, details below and I got the block and 7-piece set 'free', plus rip off of a £90 corkscrew (never use it, think I'll give it to charity shop).

Use the bread knife everyday however. Otherwise I prefer to use my Global knives as the handles aren't quite so big. Agree with Annie too, need to try a few if you're going to pay investment price. Generally speaking - big hands, big knife.

Also, the best type of holder to get is a magnetic one as that way the blades never contact anything (unless you're cutting something obviously) so dull less quickly.

Bought the pan set for £99 if I remember rightly - luuurve the pans. I was in the market for pans anyway and would have paid for that amount of stainless steel without the freebies - but that was when i had money.

    Huge saute pan
    2 frying pans
3 sauce pans and a milk pan (no lid)
    Enormous steamer set/stock pot
Saucepan lids fit the frying pans should you need it.
    Good colander.
    Use them practically every day.
Still need a non-stick frying pan though.

Found that offer in a brochure they do. Not offered all the time, they must rotate. I still get the brochure, but i wouldn't go for much in there as it's a bit overpriced.
