Paid then disappeared

Hi everyone.
Does anyone know what the regulations are about when someone pays me and then disappears? I have a customer with an outstanding balance that they were entitled to have back, but I haven’t been able to get hold of them for over a year. I tried contacting them several times in the first couple of months with no reply, so when does their balance become void and they lose the right to reclaim it? 

Also, I think I should add a clause in my Ts and Cs about this, so if anyone knows the legislation I can refer to about this I’d really appreciate it!

They have 6 years from the date they paid you to reclaim the money.

Thanks. Do you know what bit of legislation that’s from? (Just in case they come back to me after 7 years!)
