Partner is a first time buyer but I am not?

Hi,

I've been looking into different scenarios for me and my partner.

If I am not a first time buyer and he is, I understand that his help to buy isa scheme is still valid if we buy together, but that the stamp duty relief will no longer apply to us due to my non first time buyer status.

However, I do not understand how it works when it comes to a joint mortgage. Do we still get to apply for a first time buyer mortgage because my partner is legible, or does my non first time buyer status mean that we cannot get the benefits of a joint first time buyer mortgage? Does this vary for different lenders?

@shelbsboulton For the purposes of a mortgage, different lenders define FTB differently. Tbh other than the odd small cashback with some lenders and targeted schemes like Nationwide Helping Hand, effectively there aren't any major cost differences between FTB and non FTB products.
