Tax credits

Hello, I was declared BR in 2014, tax credits overpayment was included in this. After the BR I also attended a tribunal for the tax credits. There, a judge ruled the amount cannot be chased as it was included in my BR. I assumed that was the end of the matter but I’ve just received a letter from the HMRC stating I still owe the tax credits and I’ve to pay it back. I’m going to send them a copy of my BR order and the tribunal decision letter. Is there anything else I can do?

No that's it. It's a bankruptcy debt.1

That’s what I thought. I’ve got the BR order and the Tribunal decision letter to send them in the hope it’s just a glitch in their system. I went through so much stress and upset at the time I can’t face it all starting again.0

Hopefully this will help. It's the online Tax Credits Manual.

Thank you, that’s a lot to get my head around. I was a single parent when I was claiming and it was included in my BR so I don’t see how they can attempt to claim it back.0
