Defaults on credit pending screening

Hi all, after some advice please. I have been offered a job at RBS as a customer advisor on the phone, start date will happen after the credit score clearance.

Basically, out of curiosity I looked on experian and I had 3 defaults totalling £900 and as soon as I realised I phoned up straight away and paid them all in full to the debt company. These debts were before I was married, I was young and I put my head in the sand to be honest as I just didn't have the funds to pay and thought in my silly head they would disappear.

The debt company said they update the credit file every 45 days so it won't show up that they have been settled.

Will this affect my job offer? I'm really worried that it will. Has anyone any advice on this? I haven't any ccjs just the defaults thankfully.

I'm working really hard on my credit rating and have savings that I never thought I would have hence paying off in full the debts now.

Thank you all

A history of debt problems is more likely to affect job offers to those actually handling money, for obvious reasons.  If you have a contact phone number with RBS it wouldn't hurt to call them and explain the current situation.  They are going to find out anyway, but you can let them know the debts have been cleared.

As above I think you're better being upfront.

I worked in HR in the financial sector, not *that* long ago, albeit not for RBS, and I suspect it probably won't be a problem. Places are not as strict as they used to be about this stuff, as it's really not so unusual these days. I would suggest it's in your interests to get your side of the story in first, be clear you have now settled all the accounts and you're not in financial difficulties. Good luck.
