Income Tax refunds and Tax Codes

Apologies if this topic has been raised before!
My son has three part-time jobs, all with different tax codes. His total earnings for the last financial year, 2020/21, came in at under the personal allowance of £12,500, so no tax should have been paid. Looking through his P60’s, I see that he has paid a total of more than £1,200 in basic rate income tax. Can I assume that H.M.R.C. will automatically refund this tax in the next few weeks, or will he have to apply for it? Can this be done online?
How does he arrange for his three different tax codes to be reduced to a single code?
I also notice that he has also paid a small amount of National Insurance; can he claim this back?
Many thanks for any help that you are able to provide!

Any tax overpaid for 2020:21 will be automatically refunded by HMRC.

As a totally separate issue he should check his current tax codes to make sure they are correct for his current circumstances.

    Many thanks, D-and-C!
As regards the three different codes that my son has, I assume that contacting H.M.R.C. directly should resolve the issue?
    Thanks again, D-and-C

It really depends on what is wrong.  May be simplest contacting them but some things can be changed through his Personal Tax Account (gov.uk).

And it's highly unlikely any NI refund will be due as that is calculated per pay day, not based on the year as a whole.

If he contacts HMRC and gives them details of his income from each source they can split his personal allowance over the three sources.
