GWR £10 admin fee for refunds

I bought my tickets for travel today on Sunday via the GWR app, however I am off sick with tonsillitis  and tried to either change the date of travel or get a refund. The app would not even allow me to process it because the £10 admin fee is higher than the cost of the ticket., The staff in the contact centre (probably still working from home) were nice but pretty useless 

I have processed a claim for a refund using an alternative method which requires you to provide medical evidence. Given how busy the doctors are and it is only day 1 of my ailment, how can anyone be expected to provide any evidence - other than say call my employer? What a farce! 

How do they get away with it? As an alternative they also won't allow you to change the date on the ticket so I've effectively paid money for nothing!

Personal illness isn't generally a reason for a full refund of a single ticket.

Sorry. But company's usually do. When people do not read the t&c's? But hope you can get your less than £10 refund back.

How it works

We will only process a refund if the ticket was bought from GWR. If you bought your ticket elsewhere, contact the original retailer.

• we need to receive your claim within 28 days of the ticket's expiry
• we charge a £10 admin fee* for every application made
• refunds are for unused tickets.
