Trying to find cheap alcohol
Options
I am planning a wedding and need to buy drinks. So far I have done very well with everything else, but I am struglling to find cheap drinks. Is there a website or shop that someone could recommend.
I would be rather greatful.
Also I hear France is good, but I dont want to travel down there and find they dont have what I want, does anyone know any websites where I can check prices of wine in France.
Thanks

Hi dubl-d8.
Just seen your posting so hope I'm not to late to be of help.
I don't know about websites in UK, would suggest googling would pull a few sites up for you.
However, if I were in your shoes I'd hotfoot it over to France for the day and stock up there. You don't say exactly what type of drink you are looking for but to give you some idea of prices I've picked a few examples of current prices in LeClerc ( big Tesco type store all over France)
Johnnie Walker 2 bottles £12.50
Cabernet Rosé 12.5% 4 bottles £4.30
Sauvignon White 5 litre box £6
AOC 2003 Red Bordeaux £1.80
AOC Cote de Provence Rosé £1
Pol Carson Champagne Brut or Demi-sec £9
or cheaper alternative is
Mousseux Brut or demi-sec £1
Good cheap beers too.
Just a sample, they have very good wines at all prices and there are stores all over France. If it's not too late you could do a day crossing to either Calais or Boulogne and load up. My choice would be Boulogne by Speed Ferries, cheapest crossing and only takes 50 mins.
Don't know if you read French but just click on Les Promotions at top of page.
The prices I've quoted are until 16th July but they always have very good offers on.
Personally I would rather go to one of the big French stores than the warehouses set up at the ports especially for Brits, eg EastEnders,Boozers etc., better value and better wines.
Pm me if you need any more help.

Sorry, I don't know how to do a link. Can any helpful soul let me into the secret?
Hope the wedding goes off OK and the sunshines on the happy couple.I'll catch up tomorrow!0 -
Hi there - Tesco wine shop in the Carfour(sp) shopping centre sell most of the stuff they'd sell in the uk but at much better prices. There are always offers on and we normally manage to pick up wine at between 30%-70% discount.
Sainsburys wine shop in calais is also fantastic - they have a web site too I think.....don't have the address off hand tho.
Very easy to get to both if you go via the tunnel or boat, the tunnel exit is next door to the shopping centre for the tesco wines - also has a good hypermarket (some of the booze prices are better than tesco but you still get your club card points if you shop at the tesco) You'll need to take a euro coin for your trolly in either place - and make sure you've a nice big empty boot."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Just in case somebody else suggests you go to Lidl.....I would suggest you don't !!! Not unless you want very poorly guests the next morning.
We have always had a thumping headache of any wine from them, and had a very nasty experience with their 'Rachmaninov (spl?)' red vodka drink. We have heard similar tales from other people too....

I think that red vodka drink is paint stripper in a bottle. It is suppose to be a herbal flavour.
I took one sip and spat it all back out again. I chucked the rest down the sink. As it is vile. I know that was before my moneysaving days.

Do you have any of those wine warehouses near you?? We have one in central Bristol, one on the ourskirts, and one about two mins walk away! They usually do really good deals for bulk buying, and their prices are really cheap too.
Ill find out the names of them and post them here, so you can see if there are any local to you.
