Money Moral Dilemma: Should I take the free student trial I've been offered by mistake?

  • Businesses don't give special offers out of the goodness of their hearts. They do it because they want your business. If they've offered you a free trial, discount, whatever, and you want the product then go for it.
Why you would want Amazon Prime at all is another matter, not sure even the free trial is worth the bother of signing up personally....

Everyone has said enough above. I) It is most likely a phishing scam 2) You would only be eligible if you still had a student email address and can verify it. 3) Do you really want to be dishonest?
  • 3 words: Alumni Email Address.
Some Unis give you a .ac.uk email address for life after you've graduated.  For all the cost of Uni, there have to be some perks 😉

I can not believe it! Not that long ago a mature part-time student asked if it was right that they take up the student offers most people seemed to say NO! And yet this person who does not disclose their age is not even a student and the general consensus seems to be yes!
Sorry love you are not a student you do not fit the criteria for a student discount do a part-time course and yes you are a student no matter what your age.
    No study no student!!!!!!!!!
  • I signed up to Prime, it automatically gave me the student one, I don't have a student email address. I am not telling them they got it wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️

"Would it be wrong to accept it?"
Yes it would be wrong and you would be committing fraud.
With such a conviction you can forget about applying for a mortgage or securing that next dream job.
    Not a lawyer then!
  • Another take - why is it morally ok for a company to levy a charge on anyone who is not a student?
Or to put it a different way why should I have to pay extra to subsidize other customers.
It is like where organisations give a 'new customer discount' - I insist on receiving this EVERY year and in any discussion refer to it as the existing customer penalty payment.
I would just tell Amazon or whoever to offer ME the discount - or get lost.

If you have a tendency to dishonesty, you will take the offer but if you are an honest individual, you will refuse it.
That's not honest - that's naive; even proud.  I find it offensive when people dress up a foolish stand as an ethical one.
